We met while working at a summer camp in 2015. Our first conversation happened in Arts & Crafts while we made chore wheels and calendars for our cabins. Tim was playing music from his ancient iPod classic, and we were both surprised to discover that we had very specific and similar tastes in music. We continued running into each other throughout orientation, and by the time the kids arrived a week later, it was pretty obvious to both of us that there was something there. After the summer, Jess went back to Vassar College in Poughkeepsie and Tim started his first job while living in the Brooklyn, and then Albany, areas. After less than halfway through those first two years, we both knew our lives would only continue to intersect even more. Now we have a house in Latham where we live with our two dogs and cat!
Tim proposed in New York City. We were there for a concert on February 13th and then decided that we would spend Valentine's Day together in the city before heading back home. Tim insisted that I didn't have to come up with anything to do because he had the whole day mapped out and it was going to be all a surprise. This wasn't super strange to me, as this wasn't the first time that he had done something like this and it was Valentine's Day weekend. He started out the day by taking me to the Museum of Natural History (my favorite museum in NYC) and let me wander around for hours. The rest of the day was filled with tons of other stuff I love (Chick-fil-a, beer, and being horrible at arcade video games). The main event was ice skating in Bryant Park that night. I'm not going to lie, I definitely had a feeling that he was going to propose that night, but as the day passed I became less sure. That didn't stop me from being terrified after watching some other guy attempt (with little success) to get down on one knee on the ice at the rink at Bryant Park. I figured if he was planning on doing the same thing that he definitely wouldn't want to do it now. I enjoyed ice skating anyway, but we still had to get all the way back home. I told him I was ready to go when he was but he kept stalling. Eventually we get off the ice and he says he needs to head to the bathroom, so I wait for him to come out. He calls me a few minutes later claiming to have accidentally walked passed me and tells me to meet him outside. I find him waiting for me and think we're about to head to get our bags, but he says he still has a present to give me. We walk over to a set of tables and he hands me a book filled with pictures of us and sweet words. I read through the book as fast as I could with my heat beating out of my chest and look up at him as he starts to kneel. Then he said, "I have an important question for you. Will you marry me?"
