Travel Note

PLEASE DO READ!

The Dordogne Valley is a beautiful remote region of France. However, this idyllic countryside comes with some logistical challenges. There is little to no public transport and taxis are few and far in between. By far the best way to explore everything the region has to offer is to rent a car, which is easily done at most airports and/or major train stations. If you do require taxis to get around, please note you should book these well in advance. To assist on the wedding day, there will be a shuttle provided between the Chateau and town of Sarlat. Sarlat is a good base for many to stay in, with shops, markets, restaurants and lots of accommodation options. *Please make sure to check the location of your accommodations to see if they are within walking distance to downtown Sarlat in order to take the shuttle!* If you have any questions, please do be in touch!

There are a number of airports within driving distance of Carlux: Brive - Valée de la Dordogne Airport: 45 mins Bergerac Roumanière Airport: 1 hour 30 mins Limoges Bellegarde Airport: 1 hour 50 mins Toulouse Blaignac Airport: 1 hours 55 mins Bordeaux Mérignac Airport: 2 hours 45 mins (Please note the smaller airports have fewer choices and may not have direct international flights to other destinations. Most of these airports do provide car rentals however.)

There are a few train stations within driving distance of Carlux: Gare de Souillac: 15 minutes Gare de Sarlat-la-Canéda: 20 minutes Gare de Brive-la-Gaillarde: 50 minutes

Rental Car

Rent A Car

It is fairly simple to rent a car and drive around France, allowing you to experience the most of the rural countryside! Please note that the default for most car rentals in France is manual transmission (stick-shift) - automatic cars are available however, so please make sure you check prior to booking your car. Below are the car rental companies available at the nearest airport and train stations: Brive la Gaillard Train Station: Europcar, Enterprise Brive la Gaillard Airport: Hertz, Europcar Bergerac Airport: Europcar, Hertz Bergerac Train Station: Europcar Bordeaux Airport: Enterprise Rent-A-Car, Sixt, Hertz, Thrifty Toulouse Airport: Avis, Enterprise, Hertz, Sixt (Please note that although shuttles will be provided to and from Sarlat on the day of the wedding, if you are planning on spending some time exploring the area, we highly recommend renting a car to do so!)

Shuttle

Shuttle - Sarlat to & from Chateau Rouffillac

A number of shuttles will be provided on the wedding day between central Sarlat and the wedding venue. We will confirm exact timings of the shuttles before the ceremony and after the reception upon receipt of RSVPs. We highly encourage taking these shuttles as the access road to the chateau is steep, windy and dark at night - and we want everyone to enjoy the reception as much as possible! However, there is limited parking at the Chateau should you choose to drive on the day of the wedding. Please let us know your arrangements in the RSVP section.

COVID Measures

The wedding ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception will be held outdoors (except in the instance of rain). If traveling internationally, travel requirements vary by country. If you have received an approved vaccine INCLUDING A BOOSTER SHOT, you do not need to take a test upon entering France. If you do not have a booster shot, you will be required to present proof of a negative COVID test. You may need a COVID test prior to leaving from or returning to your home country. Several major airports such as Paris offer COVID tests onsite; alternatively you may find them at a local pharmacy. Please check your government requirements. This section will be updated if travel requirements change.
