How We Met

12 years in the making

Since we have been going to school together since 6th grade, it's hard to pinpoint the exact moment we first met. My first memory of Tim is from our 7th grade Science class when he ate a cherry pie upside-down to test esophageal peristalsis. Tim's first memory of me is from our 8th grade Earth Science class when I yelled at a boy for digging through my purse without my permission (sounds about right). Fast forward to our senior year of high school: Tim is a popular soccer player and I am a semi-emo average athlete. My high school bestie (looking at you Mel) and I were sitting in her room on a Friday night in December talking about our Senior prom and who we wanted to go with. Our core group of friends had recently expanded and Tim was starting to hang out with us more. I thought he was cute so I figured he would be an excellent candidate to take me to prom. We texted our closest guy friend (now looking at you Harris) to plant the seed with Tim casually. He agreed, but we later found out he instead showed Tim the text right then and there. Although questionable, his tactics worked! Tim and I started to get closer and he eventually asked me to prom with a sweet, handmade bracelet. The rest is history and we have been together ever since!

The Proposal

December 15, 2019

While many forget the details and words exchanged during their proposals, I somehow remember everything. When I woke up the morning of the proposal, I thought I was going to a white elephant gift exchange with my girlfriends. We decided to do it at our friend’s apartment building that had a nice rooftop common space with beautiful views of downtown Seattle (aka the perfect setting for an engagement). I was told to dress nice so we could take photos, otherwise I would have showed up in sweats. I arrived early with a friend to help set up and scope out some space on the roof. When we got off the elevator, I noticed that there were candles on one of the high tops and I became irrationally annoyed that someone else might be using the roof that day. However, when we turned the corner, there Tim was! He had on his boot (side note: Tim sprained his ankle badly playing volleyball 5 days prior) and had tears in his eyes. There were rose petals leading me to him and big balloons that said “Marry Me”. I immediately started crying and was so shocked he had to prompt me to walk towards him. As he popped the question, he nervously fumbled for the ring box and opened it upside-down. We laughed and I said “Yes!!!!”. Special shout out to Morgan, Tala, and Scott for helping make this day so special. To say we have both been waiting a long time for this moment is an understatement and we are so excited to celebrate our future with friends and family!
