our love story

waking up for a 9am bio class was one of the worst experiences of tim’s life. that was, until, he met the love of his. being a little too early one morning, tim and christina were helplessly waiting for the classroom to open. tim was observing the homogenous crowd plagued with salmon shorts, sperrys, and ll bean backpacks when a blue backpack had caught his eye. of course, he had seen blue backpacks before, but this one was different than the others. christina and tim were drawn to one another because of how they stood out amongst the crowd. tim had gauges and cut off jeans and christina was one of the only girls rocking vans and an element backpack on campus. the skater aesthetic separated them from the dull conformity and drew them closer with a familiarity neither had felt from others on campus. they started dating and learned more about each other. christina’s favorite music was disney pandora with was admittedly an odd choice for a 19 year old college student, but trips to disney were common for tim in his childhood — just another one of many similarities that would draw them together eternally. after a brief period apart for character development purposes, the two reunited and made new york city their home, with friends and family and renzo of course.

the proposal

we got engaged in hakone, a mountain village known for it's onsens and view of mt fuji in japan! tim proposed at hakone-jinja shrine, known for it's massive red torii gate that appears like it's floating in the waters of lake ashinoko. it was such a surprise that christina asked if tim was being serious because he joked too much about "2036 [being] a great year to get engaged". tim was so nervous he accidentally turned off our very nice camera instead of hitting record - but thankfully we caught the moment thanks to a lovely slovenian stranger who held up our tripod so the wind didn't knock over the phone.

why mexico city?

why not? but in all seriousness, tim's family is from guadalajara! we always wanted to do a destination celebration, and thought that tying the knot in mexico was the perfect way to celebrate his heritage as well. mexico city is a gorgeous city, known for it's incredible culture, food, art, and architecture - it's a perfect place for a party! we want our friends and family to be able to enjoy the city throughout the long holiday weekend before and after the official festivities. it's a central location for our guests from both coasts! and if you're a film buff like christina - baz luhrmann's romeo and juliet, starring leonardo dicaprio, was filmed primarily in mexico city!
