Less than 30 minutes from downtown Buffalo, Niagara Falls is a must if you haven't been there before. The American side gets you right up next to the falls for great views within a fully renovated state park. To get the full experience, take the Maid of the Mist boat tour or visit the Cave of the Winds to get behind the falls. If you are planning to go to the Canadian side, you will need a passport to get across the border. Be sure to leave plenty of time to go through customs when coming back.
The Niagara Gorge hiking trail is one of our favorite spots in the area! This moderate hike gets you right up to the powerful Niagara River and has amazing scenery along the way.
The outlet mall, located in Niagara Falls, NY, is a great way to spend a rainy day.
The eternal flame hike is a short trail that culminates at a waterfall with an eternal flame underneath it. There are some wet spots along the way so just keep that in mind when packing for this hike. Every once in a while, the flame goes out. If this happens, just ask someone for a lighter to relight the natural gas leak under the falls.
