FAQs

We understand that questions may come up! Please do not hesitate to reach out to Katie or Kyle about anything. Also, if you are planning on extending your stay and want more recommendations around Austin, let Katie know and she can send you a (literal) spreadsheet of things to do :)
Question

What is the weather like in Texas in October?

Answer

October in Texas is very similar to July/August in Michigan or other places up north. There could be highs in the 80's, or it could be a bit chillier. The ceremony and parts of the reception will be outside (weather permitting), so keep tabs on the weather and plan accordingly.

Question

Should I get a rental car?

Answer

If you're flying in, we would recommend that you get a rental car or coordinate a carpool to get to Georgetown. It takes about 45 minutes to get from the Austin Airport to the Georgetown/Liberty Hill area, which could be an expensive Uber. However, we will have a shuttle from the hotel to the wedding venue (and back), so no need to worry about driving to the wedding if you are staying at the recommended hotel.

Question

Short list for recommended things to do in Austin?

Answer

This is tricky, but here are some places below that are some of our favorite places in Austin: -Barton Springs Pool - for cooling off and swimming -Meanwhile Brewery - for great beer and incredible barbecue (Distant Relatives is a food truck there and their chicken is incredible!) -Salt Traders Coastal Cooking- for great seafood and happy hour every day (two locations, one in Zilker, and one closer to Georgetown in Round Rock, TX) -Hike and Bike Trail at Lady Bird Lake- Great place for a walk, we recommend parking over by Mopac -Veracruz All Natural - Amazing tacos (especially the migas). -Cosmic Coffee and Beer Garden - Great patio, food trucks, and coffee/cocktails -Austin Winery, Still Distillery, and St Elmo Brewery (all at The Yard) - Some of our favorite spots in South Austin. Great wine at Austin winery, Still has some fantastic cocktails, and St Elmo has amazing beer and an awesome food truck. -Bouldin Creek Cafe - Best breakfasts and is an amazing vegetarian restaurant with a lot of vegan friendly options too! -The Domain - if you lose your luggage or just need an excuse to shop for clothes, the Domain has tons of stores and will be sure to have you covered. -Loro - Great patio, and if you go, get the corn fritters - you're welcome. -El Dorado Cafe - Amazing Tex-Mex and where we had our first date.

Question

If I'm planning on staying in the area for several days, what other places should I check out?

Answer

Aside from Austin, there are some other great places in Central Texas to explore, below are some of our favorites: -Dripping Springs, TX - Home to a ton of distilleries, breweries, and more. About an hour south/southwest from Georgetown and has some great places, including Jester King Brewery, Treaty Oak Distillery, and not far away is Desert Door (in Driftwood, TX) a Sotol Distillery that has amazing cocktails. -Fredericksburg, TX - A quaint German town in the heart of the Texas Hill Country about 2 hours from Georgetown, it is incredibly charming and also has some great wineries (Becker Vineyards is Katie's favorite) and breweries (Altstadt is Kyle's favorite). Enchanted Rock and Pedernales Falls are two state parks that are nearby that are worth checking out. -Lockhart, TX - Go here if you're looking to make a pilgrimage for some incredible Texas barbecue. About an hour south/southeast of Georgetown, there are tons of classic places and you really can't go wrong. -Waco, TX - We'd be remiss to not recommend Waco, home of the Baylor Bears and where Katie works! Be sure to checkout Baylor's beautiful campus (including the bear cubs at Bear Habitat on campus), grab a coffee at Pinewood, walk through Cameron Park, grab some whiskey at Balcones (Kyle's favorite), or visit the Silos (if you're a Fixer Upper fan).
