Kayla and Morgan met through the Eco-Reps Peer-to-Peer Sustainability Program at KU in 2014. They reconnected around Morgan's birthday in 2016, due to Kayla's desire to play No Man's Sky but lack of a PS4. Morgan found out she was single at Henry's in downtown Lawrence on his birthday, and the rest is history.
Morgan proposed at home during family Christmas with his side of the family. We had agreed to not get each other gifts (because we were BROKE, y’all), so his opening line was, “Okay, promise you won’t be mad? I know we said we weren’t doing presents this year.” In the meantime, I notice Nettie has Morgan’s phone aimed at us, and his mom has *her* phone aimed at us, and it clicked just about the time that he got down on one knee in front of me. He brought out a BEAUTIFUL replica of Anastasia’s music box from behind his back and opened it, and inside was the ring!! He was so nervous when he asked, “Will you marry me?” that it was apparently so quiet that hardly anyone could hear him. I did, though–he was about the only thing I could see and hear at that point!! (It turns out that he had Nettie video chat with my parents, and his mom video chatted with his older sister Ila, so that everyone could be a part of the proposal ♥️)
