Question

Why Buena Vista, CO?

Answer

When looking for our wedding venue, Thomas and I knew we wanted to bring our families together in the state that brought us together - Colorado. Buena Vista is an important place for us as we camp there with our dogs often. We felt The Barn and Sunset Ranch expresses our aesthetic as a couple and showcases the Colorado mountains in the most magnificent way. We cannot wait to show all of our Iowa and Illinois roots what makes Colorado so special to us.

Question

How close will we be to Denver?

Answer

Buena Vista is a mountain town located right at the base of the Collegiate peaks. It is not a Denver suburb and it will feel like a true destination wedding. It is about 3 hours from Denver International Airport and 2 hours from the city. If you wish to spend time in the city, you can easily access Denver from Denver Airport via the Light Rail which is about $7 and takes about 30 minutes. Please note that fall is a busy Colorado season, please factor in time for mountain traffic (especially on Sunday).

Question

How is the drive from the airport to Buena Vista?

Answer

Although it is a few hours, the drive between Denver International Airport and Buena Vista is absolutely beautiful! There are two main highways - 70 and 285. The 70 corridor is what will bring you up and around and through the large Rocky Mountains. This drive may add time to your travels but brings you through Colorado Mountain ski towns - this is the highway that will be more rough for those not used to mountain driving and will increase your elevation gain significantly. 285 is recommended for out of towners as this drive takes you through the valleys of the mountains instead of up them. It still brings immaculate views but is a much more flat drive. Plus - you will pass through the town of South Park!

Question

Should I be worried about altitude sickness?

Answer

Yes and No. Colorado in general will increase your elevation so we strongly encourage friends and family to stay hydrated in advance and throughout their weekend. Water is the best way to minimize impact of the elevation change. Most common symptoms are only head aches or nausea. BV is 8,000' elevation (not as high as ski resorts) so you may feel an impact. If so, you can buy oxygen boosts at most gas stations. Please remember that 1 alcoholic beverage at altitude is 2+ at sea level! Party accordingly :)

Question

Are my children allowed to attend?

Answer

Unfortunately, in an attempt to manage the number of attendees with our venue size, we ask that you only bring your children if their name was included on the invitation. If only you and your partner were listed, please respect that we ask you to leave your kids with a loved one and enjoy a child free night!

Question

What should I wear?

Answer

The best Colorado response - bring layers! Colorado in October can bring summer heat or snow flurries. Our ceremony and cocktail hour is planned to be outdoors. Our guests comfort is a priority. The best dress code advice we have is "Cocktail Attire". Men are encouraged to wear suits, sport coat or slacks and is tie optional. The path to the ceremony is a fine gravel path so be sure to think about that when picking your shoes. The reception will be inside and dancing feet are required.

Question

Is there a shuttle to the venue?

Answer

Yes! Hello! Two shuttles will be making 3 trips to the venue prior to the wedding: 4:00pm 1. Best Western 2. Intersection of Railroad & Main 4:20pm 1. Best Western 2. Intersection of Railroad & Main 4:45pm 1. Best Western 2. Best Western End of Night Shuttle Guest Shuttles will occur 9:30pm - 11:00pm Two 14 Passenger vehicles running shuttles from the Barn at Sunset Ranch back to local lodging. Groups that are lodging together should plan on catching a ride together to limit wait times.

Question

When should I arrive to the venue?

Answer

Guests will be welcome beginning at 4:30 pm. We recommended arriving by 4:45 pm as the ceremony will start promptly at 5:00 pm. Thank you!

Question

Does the venue have parking?

Answer

Yes! There is parking available at the venue. When you arrive, the staff will direct you where to park to keep the vehicle out of guest view. And, in order to keep our guests safe, you can leave you vehicle over night at the venue if necessary. If you do leave your vehicle, it must be retrieved from the site by 9:00am the next morning. Additionally, we will have shuttles from downtown BV to support safe transportation for all of our guests!
