From the Beginning

May 31, 2020

It was May 31, 2020. Thomas and I had been friends on Facebook for a number of years at this point because he was in a band and I was a music photographer. While we had never spoken, we both made it clear that we noticed each other, always quietly liking each others' posts. Then one day I happened to notice (I wasn't creeping on his page at all... haha) that he was single. I was also recently single so after debating with myself for a couple of days, I finally got up the nerve and sent him a message. The rest is history. We talked every day for about a week before we met for the first time, and from that very first day I knew he was someone special. We spent the next year texting non-stop and hanging out whenever we could in the midst of COVID and life, and I fell head over heels for him. Whenever we were together we would spend hours talking about anything and everything, and he never failed to make me laugh and put a smile on my face. Shortly after we started hanging out, I met his brothers, Ian and Jared, and all of his friends and became a regular part of their hangs. Everyone could see that we had something special, so it came as no surprise when on May 10th, 2021, Thomas asked me to be his girlfriend officially. By that point there was no doubt in my mind, he was the one for me. We spent that year much the same as the year before, laughing and smiling and just being in love. We learned so much more about each other, and in turn grew as a couple and as individuals. We met each others' families and I feel so lucky to be as accepted into his as he has been into mine. As my mom never fails to remind me, he is her favorite kid. Then, in February 2022 we moved in together and decided that we wanted to take a trip to celebrate our first anniversary, and 2 years of knowing each other. We booked a trip to Denver, and on May 28th, our first full day in CO, we drove to Eldorado Canyon for a morning hike. We hiked (almost) to the top, stopped at a bench to take in the stunning view and I got the surprise of my life. Thomas got down on one knee, pulled out the most beautiful ring, and asked me to be his wife. It was the easiest yes of my life. When we say 'I do' on Ocober 14th, 2023, it will have been almost 3 1/2 years since the day I first said hello. It's hard to put into words how much love and happiness we have experienced in that time, but I think anyone who knows us can attest to just how much we've both changed for the better. Since I met Thomas I have had so many 'best day ever' moments, but the day I get to call myself his wife will truly be the greatest day of my life. I can't wait to walk down the aisle to the man of my dreams, surrounded by all of you, our family and friends. -Maia
