Pettinger Point offers one of the best spots to watch waves roll in and surfers carve through them. This scenic trail starts at Pacific Sands boardwalk and leads you to a stunning rocky point surrounded by the ocean. We love coming here for the breathtaking sunset views or to catch a wild surfer out at Rosie’s. And, we may have even camped in the hidden bay to the north—inaccessible from park rangers at high tide:). Whether you're here for the surf, the scenery, or just the salty sea breeze, Pettinger Point is a must-visit in Tofino. Can you find the private dream sauna?
The Tonquin Trail is one of our favorite walks, a path we've enjoyed many times. Nestled in the heart of Tofino, this trail winds through lush coastal rainforest, offering a peaceful retreat into nature. Along the way, you'll pass towering old-growth trees, moss-draped forest floors, and wooden boardwalks before emerging to breathtaking ocean views. The highlight of the hike is Tonquin Beach, a secluded cove with soft sand and turquoise waters—perfect for a quiet moment to soak in Vancouver Island’s wild coastline. Whether you're up for a short, tranquil stroll or a longer scenic adventure, the Tonquin Trail is a must-visit for nature lovers, hikers, and photographers alike. Keep an eye out for Whale Trail signs along the way. These highlight key marine life viewing spots, and you can even listen to underwater recordings from April’s employer, JASCO Applied Sciences. It’s a unique way to experience the ocean’s sounds and learn about Tofino’s incredible marine ecosystem.
Mackenzie Beach was once home to our favorite restaurant, Lil’ Ronnie’s, where we even celebrated Thanksgiving one year! Though the restaurant has since closed, the beach remains as beautiful as ever. It's a quieter spot, perfect for a peaceful stroll or sunset watch—no surfing here, just pure relaxation.
Surf Grove Campground is our go-to spot when we stay in Tofino! With beachside surf rentals and some of the best coffee from the camper near the shore, it’s the perfect place to wake up to the sound of the waves. Our '90s Dodge RV has definitely been well-loved here—especially after a chilly winter surf. Whether you're camping in a tent, van, or RV, Surf Grove offers an unbeatable location right on Cox Bay, making it the ideal base for surf sessions, sunsets, and cozy nights by the fire.
Long Beach Surf Shop was our go-to rental spot before we got our own longboards. This trusty little shop always had us covered with great boards, quality gear, and friendly staff who know their stuff. Whether you're a seasoned surfer or a first-timer, they’ve got everything you need to hit the waves. We can’t wait to get salty with you!
Surf Sister Shack is a great spot for board rentals right on the beach! Run by an amazing crew of women, this spot makes it easy to grab a board and head straight out to the Cox Bay break. Whether you’re a seasoned surfer or just starting out, the friendly team is always happy to help. It’s the perfect place to gear up and get straight into the waves!
The Tofitian Café is a must-visit for coffee and pastries we both love. Whether you’re fueling up for a surf session or just looking for a cozy spot to start your day, this local favorite is well worth a stop.
The Driftwood Café is a laid-back breakfast spot where you can enjoy a smoothie, pastry or breakfast sandwich while watching the waves and surfers at Chesterman Beach. With its relaxed vibe and ocean views, it's the perfect place to start your day in Tofino.
Shelter Restaurant is a place we’ve returned to time and time again—whether for date nights with each other or date nights out with friends (looking at you, Jimmy!). The bubbly and oysters are an absolute must, and if you’re feeling adventurous, try a classic Canadian Caesar—it’s a drink, not a salad, Jessa :). Shelter’s cozy atmosphere, fresh local ingredients, and incredible waterfront views make it a perfect spot to kick back and soak in the Tofino vibes.
Ancient Cedars Spa was where Tom had his first-ever massage, and he was completely amazed! Nestled at The Wick, this serene spa features a cozy beachside hut, where you can unwind with a massage while listening to the waves crash just steps away. It’s an unforgettable, truly Tofino experience—book early to secure your spot!
The Ukee Lighthouse is a bit further out, but it's well worth the trip. The scenic loop trail takes you along the stunning, rugged coastline, offering breathtaking ocean views and a chance to spot wildlife. A perfect adventure for those looking to explore just beyond Tofino.
The Tofino Hot Springs are one adventure we've yet to experience ourselves, but we've heard nothing but amazing things! Nestled in the remote wilderness, these natural hot springs offer a relaxing soak with stunning ocean views. Whether reached by boat or seaplane, the journey itself is part of the adventure. If you get the chance to visit, let us know if it lives up to the hype—we might just have to make it our next Tofino bucket list item!
