Although we are living in a time where social media is life, neither one of us ever imagined meeting our forever partner online. At the very least, we thought online dating was for the divorcées that didn’t know how to date after years of monogamy. Thankfully, we were wrong. In 2017, Neida was living in New York while Kaitlin was living in South Florida. We were both active on many social media platforms, however we both spent a majority of our time on the blog site Tumblr. There, we both found and joined the same queer women of color group chat. Naturally, we exchanged social media accounts and started following each other on Snapchat. Although Kaitlin didn’t post many Snapchat stories Neida soon reached out to Kaitlin on her birthday. Then months later Kaitlin finally struck up the courage to start a conversation with Neida through Snapchat. One conversation led to another and by the end of that same day we FaceTimed for the first time. Everyday after we endured long days and nights of battling work schedules and internships with FaceTime dates and text messages. Not being able to speak all the time was hard but it was even harder not seeing each other face to face. On November 11, 2017, Kaitlin flew to New York and met Neida face to face for the first time. From that moment on we knew that we were meant for each other. We are so happy to have endured all the struggles of being in a long distance relationship because now we can appreciate and take advantage of all the time we’ll be together for the rest of our lives.
The weekend after Neida’s 27th birthday, Kaitlin’s family and Neida’s mom met for the first time. The two families spent an amazing weekend getting to know each other and shared lots of laughs and love. During the weekend, Neida and Kaitlin planned to have a family picnic to send off our two families. We arrived to a beautiful curated picnic set up at Vinoy Park in St. Petersburg, FL. There were snacks and desserts that Kaitlin and Neida provided for the family to enjoy. Little did Kaitlin know, Neida brought a special surprise to the picnic that would make it an event to remember. As everyone was getting settled, Neida asked Kaitlin to come over to where she was standing. As soon as Kaitlin walked over she was filled with emotions as she glared at the chalkboard sign that read “Marry me Kaitlin!” As tears filled Kaitlin‘s eyes, Neida was patiently knelt down waiting for the ever anticipated yes. Kaitlin nodded and confidently confirmed, and the rest is history.
In September 2021, Kaitlin planned a cute get away weekend in Orlando, Fl for her and Neida. The activities for the weekend included a visit to the largest winery in Florida, followed by a night on the town as well as brunch and site seeing. As Kaitlin anxiously drove on the farm-like roadway to this enormous vineyard, Neida was relaxed and excited for the private tour and wine tasting to come. Little did she know, Kaitlin was elated for more than just the wine and the vineyard. After arriving at the vineyard, Kaitlin parked the car and brought her gift for their anniversary along with them. The tour guide showed them all of the ins and outs of the winery and production process, completing the tour with a view of the vineyard that was perfect as it was the early afternoon. Kaitlin used that moment to prepare for the biggest question she’s ever had to ask as Neida awed at the nearby grape vines. Then Kaitlin eagerly got down on one knee and patiently waited for Neida to turn around and see her fiancé asking for her hand. Kaitlin excitedly asked those famous words, “Neida, will you marry me?” And Neida replied with a yes in all smiles as the tour guide was able to capture the moment that Neida and Kaitlin will never forget.
