Travel & Stay

We're so grateful that you're making the journey! To make planning as smooth as possible, we’ve prepared a guide with travel options and resources to help you get to Crete - with Rethymno, the town closest to our venue, as your final destination. At a Glance: Greece (country) → Crete (island)→ Rethymno (town)

Flight

Getting to Crete

❀ Fly from Canada to Athens (ATH) ❀ From Athens, hop on a short connecting flight to either Chania (CHQ) or Heraklion (HER) International Airport in Crete. Both airports are about the same distance from Rethymno, our wedding town, so either work! Tip: Crete’s two international airports connect directly to major hubs like London, Dublin, Munich, Zurich, Milan, Paris, Istanbul, and Cairo - among many others. Sometimes skipping Athens altogether opens up better routes (and cheaper ones!) - so it’s worth poking around before you book. Ferry In the summer, high-speed ferries from islands like Santorini, Mykonos, Paros, and Naxos arrive directly in Rethymno. So if you’re already island hopping, you can sail straight in or out of our wedding town. Year-round, you can also take a 9-hour overnight ferry from Athens to Crete’s main ports, Heraklion or Chania. Many travelers book a cabin with a bed, so you can fall asleep in Athens and wake up in Crete. The Ferryhopper app lets you check schedules and book tickets with ease. You can view the link below.

Rental Car

Getting to Rethymno

Once you land in Crete, here are your options for reaching Rethymno which is roughly an hour drive: • Rental car (Available at both airports; the drive from Chania is especially scenic) • Private airport transfer • Taxi (FreeNow app works in Heraklion) • Regional KTEL bus — reliable and budget-friendly *Please note an International Driving Permit is required if you plan on renting a vehicle.

Hotel

Accommodations

We completely understand and respect that everyone has different preferences and budgets. We encourage you to stay wherever works best for you! That said, we’ll be staying at Pepi Boutique Hotel, an adults-only stay in Old Town Rethymno. It’s a great home base for the days leading up to the wedding, surrounded by Old Town’s authentic atmosphere and local charm. If Pepi isn’t your style or availability runs out, two other beautiful options for all ages, just steps away from each other, are: ❀ Rimondi Boutique Hotel – polished, historic, with multiple pools and spa touches. We’ve arranged a 15% discount code (Carlie&Kaeman) for anyone who’d like to book through their portal linked below. ❀ Casa dei Delfini – a characterful guesthouse with Venetian charm and great value. Otherwise, the greater Rethymno area is full of boutique hotels, Airbnbs, seaside guesthouses, and larger beach resorts if that’s more your vibe!
