Coopers Rock
If you have a little extra time while you’re in town, we highly recommend visiting Coopers Rock. It’s just a short drive from Morgantown and one of the most iconic overlooks in the area. The view looks out over the Cheat River Gorge and miles of rolling Appalachian mountains—it’s a classic West Virginia spot and definitely worth seeing. It’s perfect for a quick stop, a short walk, or catching a beautiful sunset. If you’re looking to take in the scenery while you’re here, this is the place to do it!
Morgantown
If you want a taste of the local scene, downtown Morgantown is a fun place to explore. As home to West Virginia University, the town has a lively, energetic feel with plenty of shops, cafés, and bars. Pittsburgh
If you’re staying a few extra days and want a change of pace, Pittsburgh is about an hour and a half drive from Shinnston. The city has amazing restaurants, fun museums, sports, and gorgeous riverfront views. It’s an easy day trip if you’re up for exploring beyond the mountains.
