Like many modern day love stories, this love affair started by a flick of the wrist on Tinder. Chatting throughout the weekend over text, they decided to take the next step for a date at Greyline Brewery opening. Joe had taken a seat at the bar when Heather walked in wearing a full-blown Hillary Clinton pantsuit. Coming straight from work for their 6pm drinks, Heather wanted her date to know she wouldn’t slow down her career ambition for a man. Sipping on a few beers, time flew by and the conversation flowed easily. They chatted about their lives, families, and even a little politics. Not wanting the evening to end, they continued their date over dinner at Graydon's Crossing. Little did Heather and Joe know, it would be their last first date.
Joe and Heather spent the morning of their holiday with the Stachura/Gauthier family. In the midst of cooking, laughing, and playing games, Joe was nervously anticipating one of biggest moments of his life. Heather noticed he had been quiet all day but thought nothing of it since we were surrounded by their not so quiet family. They traveled the 45 minutes up to Swartz Creek from Hazel Park to be with the James/Kivett family for the remainder of the holiday. During a competitive game of euchre Heather was playing, Joe slipped away to talk to her parents. Joe asked Rick and LeAnn for Heather's hand in marriage. After tears of excitement, they asked when this would happen and Joe told them he wanted to do it that night. After he decided on a time, the whole family upstairs was in on the surprise and decided to make a plan of how to inconspicuously move to the basement. Heather's aunt decided to FaceTime her cousin and everyone joined in. Heather decided to lay low in the background, jealous of the attention her cousin was getting. Joe had considered doing a speech aloud but in the moment decided, standing behind her, to just whisper in her ear a few words of love and acknowledgement that she was the one. When Heather turned around to look at him, he was on one knee. Heather said Yes and they celebrated with her family and friends the rest of the evening.
