Time to Say I DO

Patrick first found my profile on Facebook through a mutual friend from our time interning at Angle 3 Films. He messaged me out of the blue, and a few DMs later, we were sitting across from each other at a pho spot for our first date. The conversation was good, the food was great—but I was playing it a little too cool, and he wasn’t sure if I was into him. (I was.) After that, life happened. Patrick moved to Dallas for work, and we drifted apart. Then Memorial Day weekend 2018 rolled around. We randomly bumped into each other at Momocon and decided to give it another shot. Our first “second” date was Deadpool 2 at the movies. From there, movie nights kind of became our thing. We’ve watched way too many films, collected even more posters, and definitely gone through more popcorn than we’d like to admit. Long distance wasn’t easy, but we made it work—lots of FaceTime, too many airport goodbyes, and a whole lot of late-night talks. In 2019, I moved to Dallas, and things finally settled into place. We adopted Aspyn, our Mini Aussie/Great Pyrenees mix, and she instantly became the boss of the house. Then in August 2021, we flew to Orlando for what I thought was my grandma’s 70th birthday. Turns out, Patrick had a whole plan. The night after the party, I got ready for dinner and walked outside to see “Marry Me” spelled out in lights in the backyard of our vacation home. He was down on one knee, surrounded by my family, and I was completely caught off guard (in the best way). Now here we are—after a longer-than-planned engagement, finally getting ready to get married. Looking back, it’s kind of wild that all of this started with a random message. But somehow, through long-distance, life changes, and everything in between, we found our way back to each other—and we’re really excited for what’s next.
