There are numerous state parks in the area. Hamilton Pool is a sight to behold-- a natural pool in a steep box canyon, with Hamilton Creek spilling out over limestone outcroppings above to create a 50-foot waterfall. Krause Springs is a popular swimming spot with 32 natural springs. Muleshoe Bend Recreation Area is on the banks of Lake Travis, but the true star in the spring is its endless fields of bluebonnets. Pace Bend Park has limestone cliffs and stony coves on the west side of the park, and depending on the water levels, you may see some cliff jumpers! At Longhorn Cavern, you can walk down 52 steps into a dry river bed 130 feet below ground. Perdenales Falls State Park is absolutely gorgeous with short trails to some stunning overlooks, longer hiking treks up Juniper Ridge, or even tubing on the Perdenales river. Some of these parks do take reservations, so make sure to plan visits ahead, and if you're looking to swim, make sure to check conditions and bring your chacos!
