Whether by plane, train, or automobile, there are many options for getting to Chianti. While flying directly into the Florence airport is the simplest option, it may not be the most cost-effective. The Eurail train system makes it easy to get to Florence from any major Italian airport. Florence to Chianti: Just a 40-minute car ride south of Florence you will find the lovely town of Greve in Chianti, the closest town to our wedding venue. We encourage guests to rent a car so you can easily get around the Tuscan countryside. You can also take a taxi or train/bus from the airport or train station. See below for accommodation options. We will have a shuttle pick up from La Pensione hotel and the center of Greve in Chianti (in front of the library) to take guests to and from the welcome dinner and the wedding.

Hotel

La Pensione di Vignamaggio

Piazza Bucciarelli 5
Panzano In Chianti, Fl 50022, Italy

The La Pensione hotel offers 19 rooms. Vignamaggio is an estate with magnificent gardens, forests and agricultural land that covers more than 400 hectares on the hills between Greve and Panzano in Chianti. The villa and the surrounding farmhouses are located in Petriolo, less than 4km from the centre of Greve in Chianti and 8km from Panzano. We will have a shuttle pick up from this hotel for the welcome dinner and wedding. You can book a room via their website or by emailing eventi@vignamaggio.com (if you use our names as a reference you will receive a 5% discount).

House Or Rental

Airbnb

Here is a list of nearby airbnb rentals, all within 20 minutes of our venue (Castello Vicchiomaggio). If you are looking for other rentals on Airbnb, look for rentals near Greve in Chianti, Le Bolle, or Panzano in Chianti. We will have a shuttle pick up from the center of Greve in Chianti (in front of the library) to take guests to and from the welcome dinner and the wedding.

Rental Car

Getting Around

We highly recommend getting your own rental car. It's a beautiful 40-minute drive from Florence to the venue and rentals are about 30€ a day. This also allows you to explore the surrounding area on your own timeline. If you do rent a car, you may need an international drivers permit. Your international drivers permit can be obtained at your local AAA office or via mail.

Flight

Florence Airport, Peretola (FLR)

Option 1: Fly into the Florence airport.

Train

Train to Florence

Option 2: Fly into Rome, Milan, or Venice (these airports are much larger than the airport in Florence and may have significantly less expensive flights). Then take a train into the station at Florence Santa Maria Novella. Trains take 1 - 1.5 hours and should cost no more that $30 euro one way.

Travel Note

Taxi or Tram/Bus

Taxis are available from the airport or train station for 85€-110€. Uber and Lyft are not available in Florence or Chianti. Tram/Bus: This is the cheapest route, as it only costs 8€. The tram is located at the Florence airport and leaves every 10 minutes. Take the 20 minute light rail to the final stop in Florence, Unità. From there head to the piazza to catch the SIA bus to Greve in Chianti.
