It was the advanced acting class at Ohlone College and among my group of friends there was a couple people who I’ve never seen before. One of those people was Danny. He was hilarious and amazing and every time he did a scene I would give him all my attention. My friends and I noticed how talented he was and would try to get him to hang out with us all the time and he would always be “busy”. I remember a specific time when I asked him if he wanted to come with all of us to the burger place down the hill and he said he wasn’t hungry and then we saw him there getting something to go. He seemed super uninterested in me so my first thought was “great, I will like him now”. Fast forward to the end of the semester and we’re given our finals projects: a two person scene from a play and a monologue. I had wanted to work with Danny since the first time I saw him act so I run (I had to run, he would always book it away from class as soon as it ended) up to him and tap him on the shoulder and say “hey, do you want to do our final scene together?” and his response was “we’re only doing monologues.” quick turn and walk away. Jokes on him, we were doing scenes and I chose Angels In America and he had to kiss me on stage if front of everybody.
As Elise mentioned, I was (and remain) a real weirdo. My story also comes from that first class we took together. I spent that semester employing my classic flirting style of trying not look at or speak to her, out of fear I’d burst into flames I guess. I honestly don’t remember the first time we talked. It was probably that day she ambushed me after class. One day before class started, I was sitting in front of her and two goofuses as they had a conversation about movies, that I absent-mindedly eavesdropped on. “Have you guys ever seen Muppets from Space?”, she asked. They had not. “Oh, it’s so good! You have to see it!” It was at that moment I knew that I loved her. I continued to not act on my feelings, but thankfully she made the first move.
