Jess had just left her job at RSM and had a week hiatus before she started her new job at PwC. Mike had just left his job at Bank of America and was about to start a new job at Harvard. IN BOSTON. Both enjoying a week of #funemployment, they showed up to a mutual friend's 30th birthday party to partake in some karaoke in Koreatown. Jess spotted Mike the second he walked into the room and said to her friend, "I like the guy in the Yankees hat". Jess proceeded to make her friend ask Mike where he was going out after. Over a beer at Wilfie and Nells, Jess and Mike clicked instantly. Mike then moved to Boston and, not knowing what to say, told Jess to "take care". It didn't take long (four mintues) for Mike to text Jess after the awkward (and still hilarious) goodbye, and over the new few weeks they realized that even though they were far apart, the connection was too strong to not give it a chance. After nine months of long-distance dating, Mike moved back to New York City, and the rest is history!
While drinking champagne at the top of the World Trade Center (and breathing a sigh of relief that the over-the-top security had not revealed the ring in his pocket), Mike handed Jess a poem that ended with "I probably can't sit still right now you see, so please look over and find my soft eyes so I can ask you to...." Naturally, Jess said YES to those soft eyes immediately.
