Maid of Honor
Laura and Sarah Robinson became two different people for the first time thirty years ago. They’ve been the best of friends ever since.
Best Woman
Ro is Mark’s older sister and has put up with Mark’s proclivity for acting like a goofy little brother for longer than anyone else in his wedding party. Strangely, ever since he started dating Sarah, Mark has reverted to his ten-year old self and Ro has been once again subjected to the childish antics she thought she had gotten past over decades ago. Ro hopes, however, that their marriage means the definitive end to the phase when Mark played sad guitar songs about girlfriends.
Bridesman
Daniel is Sarah’s little brother. While he’s looking forward to his sister’s wedding, he’s most excited to discover the limits of what the venue has described as “a reasonable amount of wine.” Daniel is a doctor completing his residency in orthopedics in North Carolina.
Groomswoman
Hilary is Mark’s best friend, and teaches in the Philadelphia Public Schools. Their shared interest in education brought them together; Mark and Hilary met in an Introduction to Education class at Swarthmore during the first semester of freshman year. They share many other non-academic interests including the act of planning and making lists, doing activities, and Canada, a foreign country to which they have traveled to together nearly every year since graduating.
Bridesmaid
Megan and Sarah’s friendship was forged in the fires of Teach for America summer institute. A program evaluator for a nonprofit in Denver, Megan excels at teaching, dog training, skating, gambling, and watercolors. She is much cooler than Sarah.
Groomsman
Nolan is another close friend of Mark’s from Swarthmore; he currently studies film and literature as a doctoral student at Columbia. Nolan and Mark were freshman (and sophomore) year roommates in college. Their friendship is a true testament to the power of not judging books by their covers. Mark shared with Nolan his love for lacrosse and Ayn Rand while chatting on Facebook before meeting in person, and also wore a Harry Potter t-shirt on move-in day. Nolan decided to remain Mark’s friend.
Bridesmaid
Emily and Sarah met on their first day of work at ERS. They’ve spent the last four years together in the exciting, overwhelming, goofy, and wonderful journey that’s been launching their post-grad school careers and finding the men who will become their husbands. Emily is consultant at ERS.
Groomsman
Johnny is another close friend of Mark’s from Swarthmore; he currently works as a lawyer in New York City. At Swarthmore, Mark and Johnny cohosted a radio show called “Guilty Pleasures After Dark”, where they mainly played top-40s radio hits and electronic dance music while wearing their pajamas. Swarthmore witnessed a noticeable uptick in fun dance parties following the airing of Mark and Johnny’s show. Prior parties generally consisted of awkward hipsters dancing to Neutral Milk Hotel.
Bridesmaid
Laura was Sarah’s neighbor at both Indiana University and at Oxford. Their multi-continental friendship has been built on years of shared pizza, beer, and faith. Laura is a PhD student studying philosophy at Rutgers.
Flower Girl
Lois is the daughter of Laura and Ryan Callahan, and is Sarah’s goddaughter. She’s going to steal the show on January 19th.
