They were both working at Image Stream Medical -- Rhiannon in their office in Littleton, MA, and Mark remotely in Houston, Texas. He was flown in for a week of training, led by none other than his future bride. She remembered him as being preppy with an adorable accent. He remembers her as hating him for interrupting the training. Turns out neither first impression was true, but it didn't matter in the end!
The date was October 15th, and the place was Baltimore. They were both on assignment at Mercy Hospital to oversee a major installation there. In spending time with Mark, Rhiannon's school girl crush was growing. One evening, at a group dinner, they tried to drum up interest in grabbing a drink at a dueling piano bar nearby, each unwittingly trying to create an excuse to spend more time with the other. Imagine their surprise when meeting later in the lobby to head out under the guise of a big group outing, when they were joined by just *one* other coworker. Luckily, he was the most unobservant one in the group, and while what became their first date may have had a third wheel, he was none the wiser and they were just as smitten. P.S. Ignore anything Mark tells you about tequila and his hotel room.
If there's one thing to know about Rhiannon, it's to never disturb her sleep unless you're wearing protective gear. So when Mark woke her up toward the end of their Southwest flight from BWI to MHT and told her that the pretzels had arrived, she promptly cursed, threw the pretzels at Mark's face, and put her earbuds back in to resume napping. But then, just vaguely in the distance, she heard what sounded like Mark's voice... over the plane's PA system(!!!). Fully awake now, she took out the earbuds and was able to catch the latter half of what was a very sweet proposal. She said yes, the entire plane cheered, and pretzels will never be the same again.
Yup, that's right, they already sealed the deal 🤗 The plan was always to do a small, private ceremony at Disney World in June with immediate family prior to the big all-hands party to follow. A pandemic, however, was not part of the plan. As the nation started to shut down in the spring of 2020, it became apparent that the ceremony would not be happening. And then it became apparent that the party wouldn't be happening either. They pivoted multiple times, cancelling and rebooking hotel rooms, dining reservations, yacht charters, and airfare for immediate family repeatedly. Finally, they threw up their hands and accepted that fate had other plans for them. So, on 10/10/2020, they donned matching Bride and Groom face masks and were wed via Zoom while coasting along in a Disney Skyliner gondola with Rhiannon's sister Lindsay present as Maid of Honor, Witness, Photographer, Videographer, and emotional support catch all. It wasn't Plan A, B, C, or K, but it was just perfect as is.
