On her first night out during a summer abroad in Florence, Kelly and her friends met Gian at their good friend Tyler's bar, Astor. They immediately hit it off, and were lucky enough to spend a few weeks of that summer together in Florence. Gian had made claims to "run the town" (no doubt at an attempt to impress Kelly), so you can imagine how great of a time Kelly and the girls had from then on. They remained friends for a few years, and after Kelly graduated college, they reconnected in Florence. Florence has always held a special place in both of their hearts, giving them both lifelong memories and the gift of their first encounter. From then on, it was history...
In the city where they first met 7 years later, he popped the question. They were having an aperitivo on the riverbank of the Arno, just before sunset. Gian asked to take a picture of Kelly which she found odd considering he’d never offered to do so willingly before. She quickly and gladly seized the opportunity. He walked up to Kelly after snapping the photo and got down on one knee. There was a loud roar of cheers from the nearby Ponte Vecchio, overlooking where they were standing. She said YES, and they then set out for a gondola ride down the river for some celebratory champagne. When they were close enough to the Ponte Vecchio, Gian pointed out to Kelly that the people who were cheering on the bridge were 40 of their closest friends that flew out to surprise her for an impromptu engagement party. She burst into tears of joy at the sight of so many of their best friends in Italy, there to celebrate their engagement. The friends met the newly engaged couple back on the riverbank for a beautiful evening to celebrate their love. It was the perfect night. Oh, and Italy even won the Euro Cup that night beating out England!
