In January of 2022, Carl was the young new pilot in Kodiak, Alaska. He had big plans to become one of Kodiak's legendary float-rated pilots. Mallory had just moved back to Kodiak in the fall of 2021, with intentions of gaining career experience and spending more time with her nephews. On a typical rainy Kodiak Saturday night, Mallory and Carl found themselves at the Kodiak Island Brewery. Immediately after seeing her, Carl made his way over to Mallory to try and get her number. After a few minutes of smooth talk, Carl was labeled as "Pilot Dude," in Mallory's phone with a promise of a first date in the near future. Unfortunately, Carl and Mallory both played hard to get and that first date didn't come until December of 2023. Both say it was God's timing that they waited because neither was ready to be the person that they knew each other needed to make a lasting partnership work. After their first date, a winter plane ride to Homer where Carl showed off his pilot skills, the rest was history. The two say they knew they were going to marry each other after one month of dating.
