Kelly moved back to Cincinnati after living in Atlanta, ready to “start fresh” and absolutely not planning to meet her husband. Then she matched with Alex on Hinge. She had just moved back to Cincinnati, was technically a lawyer… with no job… living out of an Airbnb… and pretending this was all part of a very intentional “fresh start” and not at all a mild life crisis. So really, they both showed up to that first date hoping the other one was normal. Shockingly, it worked out.

Kelly knew Alex was going to propose. Her nails were done at all times, and every time Alex made a sudden movement, her left hand would slowly and casually appear in his line of sight. Alex took her on not one, but two trips, brought her to his childhood park, and even took her to her favorite, very romantic restaurant, Olive Garden. And every single time he did not propose. Of course the real proposal happened on a last-minute trip to Hocking Hills, when Kelly forgot her toothbrush, hadn’t showered, and was feeling her absolute least proposal-ready. Alex took her on their favorite hike overlooking the Ohio Valley and proposed when she was completely caught off guard. It was perfect, exactly what she wanted, and beautifully captured on video (except in the footage, Kelly’s leg blocks the entire moment). Which honestly felt right, because after months of being ready, the one time she wasn’t prepared was the moment that turned out to be perfect.
