And Now for Plan C

Hi Everyone! Thank you so much for hanging in there with us as we made the choice to update our Plan B. As you saw via Paperless post, we got married at our church in a small ceremony with family and bridal party on April 10, 2021. Our larger reception and short vow renewal with all of you is taking place on June 25th, 2022. This website has been updated with new hotel block links for options downtown near the Cultural Center. The short vow renewal and reception will both be taking place here. Formal invites will require an online RSVP and meal selection - look out for those in a few months. We are so looking forward to finally getting to celebrate with everyone soon enough. In the meantime, thank you for the love and support - stay well!

How We Met

Maize and Blue runs deep for us - we both graduated from the University of Michigan in 2012, Matt with an MBA and Marisa with a BA, but our paths never crossed. In 2014, Marisa moved to Chicago where Matt had been living since graduation. One of Matt's friends from Michigan and one of Marisa's worked together - they thought the two should meet. The first encounter was on Halloween, Marisa ignored Matt. The second encounter was at a happy hour the next January and Matt ignored Marisa. Marisa decided that wouldn't stand, so she took her friend's phone, texted Matt and asked why he ignored her. Matt was pleased - his plan worked, and the first date happened a few weeks later.

The In Between

For the next three and a half years, Matt and Marisa traveled - they took advantage of Matt's United perks and visited other countries, as well as each other's families in California and Michigan, and made the pilgrimage to Ann Arbor several times with friends to cheer on their favorite team in the Big House. Marisa knew it would last because he didn't seem deterred by her extreme Type A 'quirks,' and Matt loved how Marisa was up for anything so long as there were snacks. They continued to grow their relationship when it became a long distance one in 2018. Marisa moved to The Big Apple in April 2018 for a new job with Adobe, so Matt opened up a travel credit card to easily visit once a month. They continued to explore a new part of the country and both realized it was time to make it official.

The Proposal

Matt insisted on flying in for a short weekend trip on Thursday May, 30th - which did seem a little forced considering his trips to NYC were usually longer. But, despite flight delays he showed up in a great mood at 3am Friday morning, which should have tipped Marisa off something was up. They went to work normally on Friday, and Matt suggested they meet in Central Park to eat pizza afterwards. Marisa, who is normally late, texted Matt that she would be early, and asked where to meet him. Matt didn't know how to share location via his iPhone, so instead sent Marisa very confusing screenshots of his location on Google Maps. After a half hour of walking aimlessly, Matt called Marisa, told her to turn around and then it became clear why Matt was acting so strange. Matt had an 'I <3 NY' beach towel laid out under two trees in Central Park with pizza and champagne. It's the first time Marisa didn't eat any pizza, she was too excited and just drank all the champange instead!
