Rewind to a chilly winter evening in 2022 at a friend’s house in Central Jersey. Mike had just moved back to the area and was joining the group for his first Bible study. Little did he know, Shelby had moved back about a year earlier, fresh off a two-year road trip around the country in a converted school bus with her dog, Django, and ready for a new chapter. Immediately after noticing the handsome new guy passionately mentioning all things bikes, the outdoors, and something about a van conversion, Shelby grabbed her phone and texted her best friend something along the lines of, “There’s a super cute guy I met tonight, I really hope he’s not taken”. Once the conversations started effortlessly flowing, one thing led to another, and soon, they were hanging out under the practical excuse of “talking about solar panels and insulation” for Mike’s van conversion. While most couples bond over dinner and movies, Mike and Shelby bonded over insulation techniques and electrical wiring debates. Shelby taught Mike a few crucial lessons about 12-volt systems (and patience), while Mike impressed Shelby mostly by not electrocuting himself. Django, Shelby’s loyal co-pilot and professional sidekick, approved of Mike immediately - especially when Mike showed up at Shelby's parents’ door for the first time to meet Django and take him to the bike and dog park. From that moment on, the three were inseparable. Fast forward a few years, and the trio is now happily living by the shore in Forked River. Whether they’re biking, boating, laughing at their own jokes, or “hanging” with their pet snake, life together is never boring. Then, in true Mike fashion, he pulled off the perfect proposal, surrounded by mountains and memories in Banff National Park on June 16, 2025. Shelby said yes, with full confidence in the life they’ve built, and all the adventures still to come.
