The Bahamas uses the Bahamian dollar, which is on a 1:1 exchange rate with the US dollar. Payment with US cash is accepted in the country, though change may be given in a mix of Bahamian and US currency. Credit cards are also accepted at most places, but some may charge a foreign transaction fee-check with your card provider to see if you're exempt. Some places, like resorts and larger restaurants, are typically credit card only and may not accept cash. On the other hand, services like taxis and small vendors often prefer or require cash. We recommend bringing a mix of both cash and a credit card, just to be safe!
Tipping isn't always necessary, as most restaurants and resorts include a service charge listed as "gratuity" on your bill-usually around 15%. It's always a good idea to double-check the receipt before adding anything extra. For exceptional service or in situations where gratuity isn't included, tips are always appreciated.
