Freshman Year of College, Winter Term, 2013, we met, shook hands, and said "nice to meet you" in Rachel's dorm room. If only we knew then what that handshake would lead to :) Throughout the semester we got to know each other more, and when both of us were left last-minute without Spring Formal Dates, Nick decided to ask Rachel. Weeks leading up to that formal, we started hanging out - playing tennis, eating in the Den, or attempting to study together. But it wasn't until we got ice cream at Greencastle's legendary Dairy Castle that something clicked. Rachel got bubblegum and Nick got mint chocolate chip. While enjoying our ice cream, we sat and talked for five hours, about school, our lives, where we're from, our pets. And although we were just getting to know each other, at that moment, we both knew this was the beginning of something special. A couple of weeks later, Nick took Rachel to Phi Psi formal, we crashed a high school prom, Nick told Rachel "we're dating", and Rachel cried happy tears. And that, my family and friends, is how it all started.
Whistler Blackcomb, British Columbia. 1.18.2022. It was a cloudy first ski day on the mountain with our best friends, Meredith, Caroline, Mirza, and Mitch. Everyone knew the plan but Rachel. Nick had a ring in his backpack. Rachel had an on-mountain lunch reservation. The clouds finally started to break, and the girls received a call from the boys to meet them at the top of a ski run for photos. Rachel, hungry and not wanting to miss our lunch reservation, put up a fight to skip the photo session. It was 5 against 1, so overruled Rachel begrudgingly agreed to go. As the group reached our photo destination, everyone told Rachel, "take your helmet off!" Rachel refused and told the group, "We don't have time! We are already late for lunch!" After a few photos were captured of Nick and Rachel, Nick got down on one knee, pulled out a ring, and said, "I love you. Will you marry me?" In utter shock, Rachel dropped to her knees and replied, "Are you f***ing kidding me! YES!" It was time to celebrate! The excited group skied down the mountain for Apres and champagne, and Rachel no longer cared about the missed lunch reservation.
