First Came a Sandcastle... and Two Stuffed Frogs

It was May of 2004 when the King family spent a rainy weekend in Hart, Michigan, attending the Rendezvous for the first time. Though the weather had been dreary, the sun finally broke through the clouds that particular day, offering a much-needed break in the gray skies. Eight-year-old Jessika and her five-year-old sister Megan made their way to the community sandbox on the playground. The day before, the sandbox had seemed completely ordinary. But on this day, perfectly centered within it stood the most impressive sandcastle Jessika had ever seen in all her eight years. To Megan, however, it was far more than just a sandcastle—it was the perfect new home for her two beloved stuffed frogs, Hopscotch and Pollywagalina. For a brief, magical fifteen minutes, it was indeed perfect. Not far off, two boys—around eleven years old—were approaching the sandbox. Their names, Jessika would later learn, were Seth and Brian. As they got closer, it became clear that Seth was not happy. His eyes were locked onto the sandcastle, and with a scowl, he shouted, “Hey, that’s my sandcastle!” Jessika quickly stood, trying to apologize and explain while ushering Megan and the frogs away from the scene. But by then, it was too late—the commotion had drawn the attention of the other siblings. Megan and Seth already worked up, began arguing about whose older brother was stronger, with Megan insisting that Jordan could easily beat David in a fight, while Seth adamantly argued that David was stronger than Jordan. In the midst of this, Jordan and Jeanna, along with Seth and Brian’s older brother David, arrived on the scene. As both sides explained their version of events, it quickly became apparent that David and Jordan weren’t interested in assigning blame. Instead, they locked eyes, exchanged a few words, and instantly hit it off—becoming fast friends. With that, introductions were made, laughter replaced the tension, and two families—the Kings and the Youngs—began a bond that would last a lifetime. Now, 21 years later, not only have the families remained close friends, but they have also become family in the truest sense. Jeanna and Brian, once just part of that serendipitous sandbox encounter, are now not only inseparable but about to take the next step in their journey together. What started that day with a shared moment of laughter and a simple connection has blossomed into a deep and enduring love. It wasn’t until much later after their paths had crossed in a hundred small ways over the years, that they realized their bond had evolved into love. Their connection, once simple and easy, deepened with every passing moment until it became undeniable. The realization was almost magical—two people who had been part of the same family for years, had somehow, naturally, become each other’s soulmate. Now, as they plan their wedding for October 4th, 2025, Jeanna and Brian reflect on the beauty of their relationship. From the innocent moments of childhood to this new chapter, their love story is a testament to the serendipity that sometimes guides us toward our perfect match. What started as a chance encounter in a sandbox has grown into a lifetime of shared love, laughter, and a commitment to building a future together.
