They met through their mutual friend, Taylor Kool (now Lockman!). Taylor was Kamryn's roommate and invited Regan to ride with them on the way to SEEK2019, a Catholic college student conference. The road trip was from Lincoln, NE to Indianapolis, IL. On the way back, Regan and Kamryn talked from Illinois all the way to Nebraska. There weren't sparks flying at first, but Regan started to develop feelings throughout the semester, and Kamryn was completely oblivious to it.

Around the time of Easter that year, Kamryn began to notice some suspicious behavior from Regan. It started when he began finding ways to text her every day. Then, Holy Week came around and Kamryn had been attending daily mass. Regan caught on. He decided that it was a good idea for him to go to mass every day that week too, and "coincidentally" walk out of Mass at the same time as Kamryn. Each day he would walk Kamryn to her car, and with every day that it occurred Kamryn became more and more assured that he had other things than being "just friends" on his mind.

On Friday, May 3rd 2019, Regan and his roommates had a yardie (a party in the yard) at their house. Kamryn and her roommates came over and Regan invited Kamryn on a much-anticipated motorcycle ride. A little reluctant Kamryn agreed to go on a ride. While cruising around town, Regan stopped at a park and admitted that he had a crush on her. After a short conversation, they decided that they might as well start dating. Their theory was "well, just because we start dating doesn't mean we'll get married..." Haha, how nieve they were! The moment was a leap of faith and unplanned by both of them. Without ever having been on a date, it was official-- they were a couple!

Right after Regan officially asked Kamryn to be his girlfriend, he followed it up by asking "Can I take you on a date tomorrow morning?" So, the next morning at 10:00 Regan drove his motorcycle over to Kamryn's house to pick her up. He took her to a coffee shop and then to Chick-fil-A for lunch. He then rushed her home, because he had his college graduation at 1:00. So just by 1 day, Regan can say that he had a girlfriend in college! ;)

Three days after they started dating, they had some big changes. Regan started his first real job at the Nebraska State Climate Office as a meteorologist, and Kamryn had to move back home to Kansas City to get surgery on her knee. That summer, they learned a whole lot about each other from their nightly Facetime calls. They also each met each other's families that summer and went on lots of fun dates together. Their favorites were going hammocking, dancing in the rain, and star gazing!

After their long wait, the distance was finally over. Kamryn moved back to Lincoln to complete her last year at UNL, and Regan was still working at the State Climate office on East Campus. They spent time together playing games and going on bike rides. Life was good!

Just as everyone can recall, in March of 2020 things took a surprising turn. On March 12th, 2020, Kamryn received an email from the university stating that classes for the next two weeks were canceled. In a sudden change of events, Kamryn moved back to KC for the next two weeks as the COVID virus spread like wildfire. Little did these two lovebirds know that this was the last time they would live in the same town until they got married. From March-May, Kamryn was back in KC finishing classes remotely, and Regan was in Lincoln working remotely from his house.

At the beginning of May, Kamryn graduated from college with a degree in Biology in her front yard in Kansas City. Regan was able to attend the very "formal" lawnchair ceremony. The next week, the couple took their first trip together to Hot Springs, National Park. It was one of the only National Parks open during COVID and but they were able to spend plenty of time hiking, relaxing, exploring, and celebrating one year of dating. The rest of the summer Kamryn split her time between living in Lincoln and living back home in KC. Regan picked up a second job at Menards during this time, and in mid-August, Kamryn started her current job at a Neurology clinic in Kansas City living at home with her parents and younger brother. What started as a relationship that was supposed to be one summer of long-distance turned into a majority long-distance relationship, and these two have now become experts!

On September 4th, 2020, Regan popped the question and took Kamryn by total surprise. Regan had devised this plan for months where he would drop "hints" of going to visit the Holy Family Shrine as bait for Kamryn to think she knew the plan. Well, he fooled her and it worked-- Hook, Line, and Sinker. On the day of the engagement, they had plans to go to the Shrine and Kamryn was convinced he was going to propose. However, in a coincidental change of events, they had some friends ask them to come over to hang out instead. Regan agreed to reschedule the Shrine and Kamryn was like "Whew, it's not happening today". Well later at dinner, Regan brought up that they should go drive through Mahoney State Park since it was on their way back. Kamryn agreed because they didn't have any other plans, but little did she know that when Regan said he "had to go work for a few hours" earlier he had actually gone to decorate a gazebo at Mahoney State Park with fairy lights. Kamryn had no idea what was happening until Regan said "Let's go in the gazebo." and Kamryn goes "whyyy??" and he goes "because it's cute!". She was caught by total surprise, but without any hesitancy said yes!

Since they got engaged the couple has stayed plenty busy! Regan still lives in Lincoln with 4 other guys and works at the State Climate Office on East Campus full time, and Kamryn is living at home with her parents and younger brother and continues to work at the Neurology clinic in Kansas City. They make an effort to see each other at least every other week, but otherwise, these busybodies are busy planning a wedding, preparing for marriage, taking classes, working, and trying to enjoy what's left of their singlehood. However, both of them could not be more excited for August 28th and to officially be Mr. and Mrs. Kerkman!
