Genny Li

March 8 - 10, 2024

Austin, TX

How We Met

We met at UT Austin, where Juan studied Mathematics and Genny Finance. Although we met early in 2016 through a student organization, we didn't become friends until we both moved to the same building, Pointe on Rio, for the Fall semester. We quickly bonded over our passion for food and exploring all the things that Austin has to offer. Fast forward to August 2017: Hurricane Harvey flooded Juan’s apartment and he sought refuge with Genny. As time went by, we slowly grew to love living together and eventually made our relationship official on March 2nd 2018.

Why Costa Rica?

We fell in love with Costa Rica in 2019 when we went for a Spring Break trip with our siblings. We saw the most beautiful sunsets, enjoyed the abundance of nature & wildlife, and loved the Pura Vida lifestyle. Since then, we’ve been back for 2 more unique and fun adventures. With a destination wedding in mind, we couldn’t think of a better place than the beautiful beaches of Guanacaste, Costa Rica.

About the Venue

Las Catalinas

Las Catalinas is a charming little town tucked away by the western Guancaste coast in Costa Rica. It sits between lush forests and pristine beaches and has the most beautiful Spanish colonial architecture. The entire town is the venue itself. Our ceremony will be located by the ocean at Plaza Agave and afterwards the ceremony will be at Plaza Celaje, just a few steps away. Both the ceremony and the reception will be outdoors. We encourage you to stay a few nights extra to enjoy the tropical paradise that Costa Rica has to offer.

How did the Proposal Happen?

A Commitment to Spontaneity

While Juan originally had plans for an engagement trip to Mount Rainier to propose to Genny on a beautiful hike, the universe kept on dropping hints on July 2nd, 2022, the day that Juan picked up the engagement ring. During the drive, Juan asked Genny what her favorite place in the world was and she answered their new home (location – CHECK). Earlier in the day Genny’s middle brother asked to stay the evening, as he was visiting to move out of Austin (photographer – CHECK). Genny also had planned a catered sushi dinner that evening (nice dinner - CHECK) at the house before going out for drinks with our close friends (after party - CHECK). Everything all aligned together coincidentally and Juan popped the question after dinner in their backyard before all going out to celebrate with friends.
