We met the way every parent fears… 2 teenagers… on the internet! Against all odds, we dated for about a year long distance in high school. We ended going our separate ways but always kept tabs on each other. The day after Cody’s 26th birthday, we rekindled our friendship. 3 months later Cody visited me in Nashville! He enjoyed his trip so much he decided he wanted to move down 4 months later. The rest is history ❤️

On Sam’s 25th birthday, we went to Percy Priest Lake to take Walker swimming. I had put on some music on the drive there and Cody Johnson’s “Diamond in My Pocket” played - without being queued. I thought for sure she knew what I was going to do when the song came on, but she didn't. One of the many reasons why I love Sam is because she’s so smart, she figured out every other idea I had before this one. We had a great time playing fetch with Walker in the water - he learned to swim that day! While diving for a stick, he choked and he needed a break. It was the perfect time to get out her birthday card. When she was reading it, Walker had decided to be my perfect wingman, he had gotten spooked by the sound of his leash on the metal of the table leg and obviously I had to kneel down to comfort him. By the time she had finished reading her card, I had my chance. I pulled out the ring and asked her to marry me. It might have been the quickest decision I have ever seen her make.
