In 2025, on the Fourth of July, after a canceled flight and only two hours of sleep, Alyssa and Tyler headed to Washington, D.C. to enjoy the long weekend together and experience Tyler’s first time on a plane. They touched down, took a quick ride to their hotel, and got what they needed most before tackling the most American holiday in the most American place… a rare but much-needed nap. They woke up and headed straight to a fun parade, then guided themselves through the city, visiting museums and more. Despite Alyssa’s tiredness, Tyler was steadfast in getting to the Lincoln Memorial. Through trials and tribulations of dehydration and 25,000 steps, they arrived—only to find the monument was closed. Next came Tyler’s idea of going to see the cherry blossom trees… but they were out of season. Still, they admired the beautiful Washington Monument over the water, took pictures under the trees, and stumbled upon the Roosevelt Memorial, a series of breathtaking stone waterfalls. It sounded and looked like pure peace. Tyler suggested Alyssa take out her phone to vlog a summary of their trip so far, and Alyssa was absolutely game—any chance to document their love, she’ll take. Once the camera was rolling, Tyler told her to put it down to show off their coordinated outfits, and of course, she did. After tripping on her way over (classic), they stood together in front of the waterfall, holding each other and talking about how much they loved one another. Tyler asked, “You going to love me forever?” and Alyssa responded, “Of course I will.” He smiled and said, “This has been an amazing trip so far, but I think I know what could make it even better.” Boy, was he right… He got down on one knee, asked Alyssa to marry him, and Alyssa—with butterflies in her stomach and tears rolling down her face—followed him all the way down. After countless “what’s,” “no’s,” and “are you sure’s,” she finally gave him the most authentic and true “yes.” Moments after were nothing but hugs, kisses, and tears—until a kind stranger approached, offered to take photos of them, and gave her congratulations, good wishes, and blessings. The rest of the day—and their lives since that moment—have been filled with gratitude, excitement, and firsts together “as fiancés.”
