I hadn’t thought of Stormy in years, when I found our night out in Fort Worth was about to overlap. We were meeting our friends in the Stockyards already and Hannah (my bestie cousin) told me he’d be there. It was a nice surprise, but still I told her “Don’t try to wingman for me, I’m not interested in dating right now”. If I was being honest, Stormy was my middle school crush, but I’d sworn off dating at the time. Looking back on it, my anxiousness makes me chuckle. You know what they say: You find love when you stop looking for it… HK pitched a good character review, boasted of his work ethic, and she didn’t have to sell his good looks (I couldn’t deny that he’s handsome, duh). So, I said “fine, just DON'T try to be a wingman”, and we started planning our outfits like we always have. The night unfolded, and I was in for another pleasant surprise: Talking to Stormy wasn’t just easy, it was natural too. There was a comfort level already that I hadn’t experienced with another boy before. We danced together all night, and he walked my group of girlfriends back to our car after buying us all street tacos. The next surprise of the evening was that I left having the first crush I’d had in years. That night began the first episode of our paths crossing: we talked for a month or two, but the timing wasn’t lining up for us. We drifted apart with the confidence that anything meant to be always finds a way. Stormy began reaching out with intention. I was hesitant so he met my stand-offish side… but to my surprise, he didn’t back down. I slowly let my guard down, and decided to trust God and Stormy. That decision resulted in the most fun and loving season of my life. That season changed us both in all the positive ways that love can heal people. As the Summer season ended, Stormy surprised me again: He took me to the mountains and asked me to keep our best season going… The season of Us, forever. There was no hesitation in my response this time, and my excited tears continued as we began envisioning our next chapter. Praise God, for the power of love, seasons, and where the best surprises can take you!
