Gus Macker is a renowned, nationwide 3-on-3 basketball tournament series in the United States, founded in 1974 to bring "driveway-style" basketball to communities. Designed for all ages, genders, and skill levels, the weekend-long events feature street basketball, food, and music, often raising money for local non-profits. The city of Ludington will be hosting Gus Macker June 20th-21st. The event is held downtown/by the beach area.
Main park entrance: Follow M-116 to the end. Large vehicles not recommended on Piney Ridge Road. Ludington State Park, situated between the 5,000-acre Hamlin Lake and 7 miles of sandy Lake Michigan shoreline, features scenic sand dunes, three campgrounds, the iconic Big Sable Point Lighthouse, 21 miles of marked trails and more. A 1-mile stretch of the Big Sable River runs through the park and provides excellent opportunities for fishing, paddling and tubing. Reach the iconic Big Sable Point Lighthouse via a 1.8-mile (one-way) sand-and-gravel Lighthouse Path, accessible by foot or bike. While the path offers little shade and can be challenging, especially in warm weather, the reward is a breathtaking view of Lake Michigan.
Main beach entrance: Stearns Drive off North Lakeshore Drive. The North Breakwater Light is Ludington’s focal point, and a great place to watch the sunset or wave at the S.S. Badger carferry as it cruises out onto Lake Michigan. The breakwall leading out to the light is a popular venue for fishermen and those who enjoy walking the mile-long round trip. Lighthouse is located at Stearns Park, where so many people gather for a number of activities. This is the city’s largest beach, with 2,500 feet of sandy shoreline and plenty of free parking. Here you can swim, build a sand castle, and enjoy the view of the Ludington North Breakwater Light, open for tours in the summer. There are no lifeguards, but beach patrol officers are on duty from 11am-8pm. There is also free Wi-Fi at the park.
Before the wedding festivities kick off, we’d love for you to experience a little taste of downtown Ludington with us. One of our go-to spots is Cluck Bucket—their chicken sandwiches are legendary, and the soft pretzels with cheese are basically a requirement. You might also catch us over at Jamesport Brewing Company, where the vibe is relaxed and the craft beers are always on point (the Blueberry Wheat has our stamp of approval). Both places are right in the heart of downtown, so whether you pop in on your own or happen to run into us there, you’ll be enjoying some of the best of what Ludington has to offer before the big day!
