Located inside the Quickie Pickie on East Cesar Chavez, we think this is the best BBQ not named Franklin's. It can also have a bit of a wait, but not nearly as long as the other guys. Their brisket is spectacular, and if you're with a group, a beef rib can go a long way!
Grab a six pack of your favorite cold beverage (no glass) and head over to Peter Pan Mini Golf. This Austin original is a great time, and if you head over to Chilantro afterwards, you will have approximated our first date! (It's now a brick and mortar instead of a food truck).
With a constant 68 degree temp year round, you can always go for a dip at Barton Springs Pool. Enter either from Barton Springs Road or on the South side at William Barton Drive. $9 for Adult visitors, with discount rates for juniors, children, seniors, and Austin residents.
Aaron Franklin is a genius and his brisket is still a cut above the rest. The line is a bear though, and a personal decision if you think it's worth the wait. If you do decide to go, bring a cooler and some tunes to make the hours (that's plural) wait more bearable.
Rachel's favorite barbecue spot that usually does not have a wait. Micklethwait is a better kept secret compared to the twin behemoths of Franklin and La Barbecue. Excellent brisket and a diverse rotating sausage and sides selection puts Micklethwait in contention for best barbecue in Texas.
South Congress is one of the best night or day destinations in the city. Lined with great shops (Allens Boots, Kendra Scott's HQ, Yeti's HQ, Stag Provisions), restaurants (Cafe No Se, Perlas, Junes, Hopdoddy etc..), Amy's Ice Cream, and some of the best music clubs in Austin (Continental Club for the pro's, Ego's for the amateurs). We highly recommend a visit!
Great place to rent SUP boards or kayaks on Lady Bird Lake.
