How We Met

it was the night before christmas...

and all through the house, no young Jews were stirring...because they were at Lucky Lounge! In a time before Tinder was a thing, Drew and Rachel met the old fashioned way--at a bar! Truth be told it was a party for the young adult Jewish community in Austin, but that's not the real story. Drew and Rachel only spoke for five minutes, but in that time Drew smartly asked Rachel to dinner. They exchanged numbers and went their separate ways. A few weeks later, after the holidays, Drew gave Rachel a call. Surprised someone actually phoned her to set up date plans (not just a text), Rachel happily agreed. Peter Pan mini-golf, Chilantro, and then drinks at Speakeasy, the date was a success. Four years filled with many ups, and a few downs, now brings us to this wonderful day.

The Proposal

June 23, 2018

In June 2018, with Drew far away at his summer internship in San Francisco, Rachel flew out to visit. As a "birthday" treat, Drew planned for a weekend in St. Helena, Napa Valley, as the California Wine Country was a new adventure for them both. Saturday's 104 degree heat did not deter the two from Rachel's desire to ride bikes on their tasting tour (luckily Drew had booked vineyards very close to the hotel). If Rachel had any inkling, the lack of a proposal when the pair were the only ones on property at William Cole, and then Revana Family Vineyards, totally erased the thought. Drew didn't expect the private tastings to be exclusive as well. Lunch at Brasswood Cellars (order the mozzarella) then led them to their final stop of the day: Ehlers Estate. With the sun still high in the sky, Rachel and Drew biked up the drive to the old stone barn that served as the tasting room. While sipping on the last of the day's tasting, Kevin, Ehlers' tasting room director and their guide for the final stop, offered to take Rachel and Drew on a tour of the grounds. After stepping outside to the back lawn, Kevin informed the pair he'd forgotten his keys to the barrel room and asked if they'd wait a moment. Offering to take Rachel's glass when he went back, she demurred, but otherwise the ruse worked to perfection. Drew then took to a knee and asked Rachel to marry him!
