Flight
The nearest airport to Taormina is Catania Fontanarossa. There are direct flights from Birmingham, Manchester, Leeds, Southampton and London.
Rental Car
You can pre-book a transfer from the airport to your hotel, the journey will take approximately 45 minutes by car. We’ve used this taxi service before, they are expensive at €110 one way, but it’s the most efficient way to travel. Top tip: the cars are 8 seaters, so share with other guests on the same flight!
Train
There is also a train station, which is a short taxi journey from the airport. This takes you to Taormina train station, but keep in mind the train station is at the bottom of the cliff in Taormina, so once you arrive there will still be quite a journey ahead of you.
Travel Note
There is a bus service that runs between the airport and Taormina, we’ve caught this both to and from. This is a much cheaper way to travel at €7 pp each way, but the journey takes just over an hour. It’s a nice sightseeing journey, travelling through Naxos and past Isola Bella, so if you have the time it’s not a bad way to travel. This will drop you off at the Taormina bus terminal, from here it’s a short walk up the hill to the Corso Umberto. You can view times online (click ‘view’ below) or purchase tickets at the airport. Once you leave departures, turn right and head out to the bus stops. Top tip: the blue buses tend to be in much better shape than the red ones!
