Before their paths crossed, Isabel and Kyle were both in seasons of major change. Kyle had recently bought a house with his sister, Lauren, on Daniel Island in South Carolina in February 2021 — just a few months before he would meet his future wife in July of that same year. Neither of them knew what was coming next. It all started on a warm summer night when Isabel went out to celebrate her last day at Basics First Chiropractic with her boss and mentor, Dr. Catherine Toplansky. After happy hour at Vino Bistro, they made their way into downtown Leesburg and ended up at McDowell’s Beach Bar. At that exact moment, Dr. Phillip Chang happened to be there with his son, Kyle, who was visiting from South Carolina for what was intended to be a short trip home. Isabel noticed Kyle from across the bar (and Kyle definitely noticed her too!). Kyle even asked his sister for advice on how to approach the pretty girl staring at him. Their final plan? Offer her a tater tot. (Which, knowing Isabel… was the smartest strategy possible.) She accepted — and then accepted the drink he offered next. From that moment on, they were inseparable. The night turned into bar hopping, deep conversations, and that instant, easy kind of connection you don’t forget. What was supposed to be a weekend visit for Kyle turned into a two-week stay filled with date nights, long talks, and learning more about each other every single day. And from that night forward, they never stopped talking — literally. They spoke every single day. Eventually, they agreed to give long distance a try, committing to weekly FaceTime dates (usually involving wine… sometimes lots of wine). A few months in, it became clear: they wanted a real future together. Kyle made the brave, heart-first decision to move back to Virginia to build a life with Isabel. And before moving into their own place, they both ended up staying at Dr. Chang’s house for months — basically becoming permanent houseguests.
