Dan and Alaina met in the way many modern couples do: by swiping right! Their first date was scheduled for Friday, February 19, 2021, which happened to be the week Winter Storm Uri hit Texas, knocking out the state power grid. Both Dan and Alaina were out of power all week long and stranded inside due to icy roads, but they were determined to make it to their Friday night date. Dan chose Rouxpour, a Cajun seafood restaurant (he was trying to woo a Louisiana girl, after all), for their first date. Despite the frosty weather and the lack of electricity in their homes, sparks immediately flew for the pair at the restaurant. When they each returned home they were thrilled to discover the power had returned - let there be light! They have been together ever since.

Dan and Alaina have built a busy and beautiful life together in Houston, TX. Dan has become cat dad to Alaina's kitties, Georgie and Babsy, and Alaina is learning to be more creative in the kitchen thanks to Dan's love of the culinary arts and homebrewing. On a typical night at home you can find them listening and singing along to music, trying a new bottle of wine and talking about their dreams for the future.

The proposal was a magical event months in the making. In February 2023, right before their 2-year anniversary, Dan and Alaina returned to Baton Rouge, LA to visit Alaina's family and for Alaina to sing at a Valentine's jazz concert. While in town, Dan sat down Alaina's parents, Chard and Mendy, to ask for her hand in marriage. Despite mentally preparing to grill Dan and interrogate him about his plans for the future, Chard immediately melted, shouted "YES!", and, in Dan's words, "he cried like a baby." After receiving a warm and happy blessing from Alaina's parents, Dan got to work on the proposal! Alaina and Dan planned a trip to Dan's favorite place, the mountains of Colorado, for Easter weekend and Dan knew that was the perfect time and place to ask Alaina to be his wife. On Saturday, April 8, 2023, beside a quiet stream in Rocky Mountain National Park in front of a backdrop of soaring snow-capped mountains, Dan got down on one knee and popped the question. It was an easy "yes, of course!" for Alaina. Tears, hugs and kisses were shared and the two celebrated their engagement afterward with red wine and fine scotch whiskey at the Stanley Hotel in Estes Park, CO.
