Emma's Story: We probably saw each other at some point in college, but the first time I remember seeing Joe was in 2017 across the parking lot at work. He was standing with a group of other tall, balding, bespectacled technology specialists and my coworker pointed at him and said, "There's your future husband." Later that week, we sought out the font of all knowledge, the school secretary, to find out more about this man I was fated to marry. What a shock when she told us that he was already engaged and getting married that summer! For four years, I put the supposedly-married Joe out of my mind until suddenly he turned up back in my life and in my classroom. Joe's Story: Our paths crossed over and over over the years, but we didn't meet each other until 2021 when Emma started teaching third grade at Fairfield. The first time I walked into her classroom, I didn't think she liked me or STEM. She wouldn't stop working long enough to talk to me or find what I was doing. She was in full on panicked new teacher mode and couldn't see that the love of her life was standing in her doorway. I was worried that she was going to be one of those teachers who schedules tests on STEM days and comes with any reason for me not to disrupt her classroom with my noisy, crazy, messy projects. I was so wrong about her! After the wreck, we got to know each other and share our enthusiasm for science in those first few tentative projects. By October, I knew she was going to be the crazy, pumpkin, wonder woman that I wanted to date. She seduced me with cookies and took me on a geology walk. By the end of the date, I was hers.
