Travel Note

What's it like in Ireland in March?

March is a great time to visit Ireland, offering a mix of fewer crowds most of the month, blooming scenery, milder weather (around 50°F), and vibrate cultural events, especially St. Patrick's Day. It's a "shoulder season", balancing lower costs and more authentic experience with the start of warmer, brighter days. With layers, a warm coat or rain jacket, and waterproof shoes, you’ll be comfortable and get to experience Ireland at one of its most charming times of year.

Travel Note

Do I need a passport?

Yes. A valid passport is required for all U.S. travelers. Please ensure it is valid for at least 6 months beyond your travel dates. If you are need of a passport or it is time to renew, see the link below by clicking "View" to apply. A Real ID is not needed as they are used for domestic travel.

Travel Note

Do I need a visa to travel to Ireland?

U.S passport holders do not need a visa for short tourists stays in Ireland. Note: If you extend your travels into Northern Ireland, you will need a UK ETA, as Northern Ireland is part of the United Kingdom. You can apply for one through the UK ETA mobile app.

Travel Note

What airport should I fly into?

Guests should fly into Dublin Airport (DUB) as this is the closest international airport to the wedding celebrations. When departing Ireland, both Dublin Airport and Shannon Airport have U.S. Preclearance. This means, you will clear U.S. Customs and Border Protection before you board your flight! So, when you land back in the States, you will arrive as a domestic passenger (no long customs lines!) Because of this extra step, we recommend arriving at least 3 hours before your scheduled departure home, to the U.S., to allow enough time for security and customs.

Travel Note

What currency is used in Ireland?

The Republic of Ireland uses the Euro. Exchanging money before your travel is not necessary. Credit cards and contactless payments are widely accepted through Ireland, including taxis, restaurants, and shops. Most places accept Visa and Mastercard. American Express is accepted some location but not everywhere. Cash in small amounts can be helpful for tipping tour guides or drivers, small shops or rural pubs, markets or street vendors. You can withdraw Euros on arrival at ATMs using your debit card. We recommend notifying your bank before traveling to avoid declined transactions. Note: If extending your travels to the north. Northern Ireland is part of the UK and uses British Pounds.

Travel Note

Is it customary to tip in Ireland?

Tipping is appreciated but not required.

Travel Note

Will my phone work in Ireland?

Most U.S. phone plans work internationally. Check with your carrier about international plans. Example: Verizon offers Travel Pass which is a daily international plan providing unlimited talk, text, and data, typically $12/day and charged only on days you use your phone abroad; it activates automatically when you use your phone internationally and includes 5GB high-speed data, followed by unlimited 3G.

Travel Note

Does Ireland have Uber?

Yes, Ireland does have Uber but it is not recommended. Download the app, Freenow, to your cell phone. Freenow is used locally in Ireland allowing users to book local taxis. Dublin is a walkable city and often times a ride may not be needed at all!

Travel Note

What time zone is Ireland in?

Ireland is 5 hours ahead of Eastern Time in the U.S during March. For example, if it's 12:00 PM in New Jersey, it will be 5:00 PM in Dublin. All wedding times on our website are local time in Ireland, so please plan your travel accordingly.
