Kyle and Christine both grew up in the small town of Penn Yan and have pretty much known each other their whole lives. They first met in 2002 through the Yates County Youth Soccer Program where the brides’ parents Jen and Bob coached a team with the help of the groom’s parents Bonnie and Dan. While the couple didn’t fall in love then, the groom’s mother has photos that show that the two made each other laugh even at an extremely young age. Kyle and Christine grew up attending the same schools and even attended the same college for a few years, but it wasn’t until after they had both graduated college that the sparks ignited. Thank you to a family friend and technology, Kyle messaged Christine over Facebook in August of 2015. The couple talked for many weeks before getting together for their first date in October. Their official first date consisted of the fastest bowling game ever (both were pretty nervous) and a late evening walk on The Outlet Trail in Penn Yan. Even though it took a bit for the two to become officially boyfriend and girlfriend, their first date started it all.
After 7 long months, the couple celebrated Kyle’s post-deployment homecoming with a long weekend to the Outer Banks. On Sunday May 19th, Kyle insisted that they stop at Jockeys Ridge State Park, a large sand dune park before heading back to South Carolina. The couple made it to the top of the largest sand dune and just stared out over the ocean. Christine joked about putting a deposit down on a vacation home and instead of saying something like “We definitely should!” Kyle responded with “How about this instead?”. He proceeded to get down on one knee and asked Christine to marry him! What felt like just a few seconds to Christine must have felt like a few hours to Kyle because Christine heard Kyle ask her a second time saying, “Will you be mine forever?”. Christine gathered her ugly tears this time around and to no surprise, said YES! The proposal was perfect!! Christine felt like the luckiest woman in the world and couldn’t stop staring at her future husband and the BEAUTIFUL ring that he picked out all on his own.
When thinking about their wedding date, Kyle and Christine both agreed that they'd like to get married in the fall and decided on 10.10.2020 thinking it would be a date hard to forget when they were old. While the couple had a beautiful plan to get married at Wingate Barn in Livonia, the COVID pandemic forced Kyle and Christine to completely rethink their wedding day. Conversations were had about postponing the wedding for another year but the couple was ready to get married and wanted to officially start their lives together as husband and wife. Kyle and Christine ended up getting married at the Keuka Lake State Park and couldn't have asked for a better day as it was a beautiful 75 degrees in mid-October in Upstate New York! While it was challenging for the couple to first accept the changes, the couple now looks back on their wedding day and finds it telling that they ended up getting married on the lake that they both grew up on and even got to make a quick stop at the homemade ice cream place in Penn Yan between the ceremony and the private dinner they had that evening.
