The Petaluma Gap is one of the most prestigious regions in California (and the world!) but we also love and recommend visiting Healdsburg, Guerneville, St. Helena/Calistoga, downtown Sonoma, and downtown Napa. Below is a winery directory from Sonoma County:
The Petaluma area and Sonoma County have endless hiking with beautiful scenery. Options range from hills to coastal mountains to beaches with national treasures like Muir Woods, Lake Tahoe, Yosemite National Park, and more within a few hours away. Some of our favorites include Tennessee Valley, Mount Tamalpais, Point Reyes, Desolation Wilderness, and the Mist Trail in Yosemite. Always bring a layer when hiking, the fog can roll in quickly!
Sonoma and Marin counties are two of the best cycling regions in the world. Marin is actually where mountain biking was invented! There's endless road, gravel, and mountain biking options near Petaluma with several rental shops that can point you in the right direction. If John has time you'll see him out there 😅
There are endless activities in the Bay from shopping and eating in San Francisco to tide pooling on the coast. Check out our Google Maps list for our favorites above, or this recent Wall Street Journal article also covers some great options in Sonoma County:
