Pierce Stocking Scenic Drive
The Pierce Stocking drive is one of the jewels of Michigan. It's a one way road, 7.4 miles long, that travels through several ecosystems in the Dunes area and sweeping views unlike anything you've ever seen. The highlight of the drive is stops #9 and #10 which are called Lake Michigan Overlook and Sleeping Bear Overlook and happen to be where clay proposed to Tess! Tip: there is a booth at the entrance to check that you've paid the fee, although if you enter the drive after 5pm, it's likely that the gate will simply be open with nobody to check your pass. As long as you're off the road completely (all four tires) you won't get a ticket. When you get to 9/10, you have to walk up a short sandy hill to the overlook. Do it, it's well worth your time. This is the crown jewel of the Scenic Drive and the whole reason it was built here.
Pyramid Point Trailhead
This is one of Clay and I's all time favorite hikes in Northern Michigan. It's a 30 minute hike, one way. Moderate incline leading to an unparalled view of Lake Michigan. You will not be disappointed!!
Dune Climb
Ready for some epic star gazing?! For those night owls that want to see the milky way and some shooting stars in all their glory- this one is for you. Sleeping Bear Dunes "Dune Climb" is open 24hrs and is the perfect place to get an incredible view of the stars. You can also hike the dunes during the day but be sure to bring footwear and a bottle of water!
Cherry Republic | Glen Arbor
After you've worked up an appetite climbing the dunes, you have to stop by The Cherry Republic for something delicious to eat and drink. Sample some of their 200 yummy cherry products in "The Great Hall" or enjoy wine tasting (or soda pop tasting for the kids!) in The Winery. Flights of beer also available in the Cherry Repulic House resturant. Enjoy indoor and outdoor seating tied together by cheery perennial gardens that wind throughout the property.
