Question

What is a Traditional Nigerian Engagement Ceremony?

Answer

Essentially, a Traditional Engagement Ceremony is the joining of the couple's families in preparation for their marriage. The tradition goes back to being in Nigeria, where a couple would bring their families together—often from two different villages—to meet one another and approve of their engagement so that they could be married. The three main themes of this celebration are Family, Food, and Fun. After the ceremonial blessing from the two families, we will enjoy an assortment of Nigerian food and celebrate to the rhythm of African beats!

Question

What is money spraying and why is it so important to Nigerian culture?

Answer

Money spraying is a gesture used in Nigerian culture to bestow blessings on someone at birthdays, weddings, graduations, and even funerals. Elders in a family will spray children at celebrations of death to share blessings with the new generations. Family and friends spray a bride and groom at their Engagement Ceremony and Wedding to pray for a prosperous union. Guests come to weddings with as little as $20 and as much as several hundred. But no pressure; spraying is all dependent on what you’re comfortable giving. Ten and Shawn promise to stay on their dancing feet to earn your blessings!

Question

What time should I arrive at the Engagement Ceremony?

Answer

Please arrive promptly at 6:00pm, to make sure you have time to grab a glass of champagne and get settled in before the ceremony begins! Silverado has golf cart service you can arrange for rides to Vintner's Court.

Question

What should I wear to the Nigerian Engagement Ceremony?

Answer

Immediate family of the Soon-to-Be Bride and Groom will be wearing custom attire sourced and sewn by incredible vendors in Nigeria. Traditionally, guests wear colors that represent the families coming from each village to witness the happy couple's official engagement. Guests of the Bride and her family are asked to wear emerald green. Family and friends of the Groom are asked to wear sapphire blue. The dress code is cocktail attire, but know that Nigerians love to show up and show out!

Question

WEDDING DAY: What is an Unplugged Ceremony?

Answer

An unplugged wedding ceremony is one in which the couple requests that guests put away their devices in order for them to be present in the moment. Ten and Shawn have heavily invested in the memories they hope to share on their Wedding Day, including acquiring streaming services and a very talented team of videographers and photographers. More than anything, the couple hopes their guests will share in the intimacy of the day and would rather not look into the crowd, or back on the day, and only see faces blocked by devices. As such, on the Wedding Day, the couple will require *all* guests to check their phones and other camera devices at their phone valet station upon arrival. Devices will be stored and supervised for the duration of the Ceremony. For guests' convenience, devices will be moved to Cocktail Hour to be picked up before the Reception. Beyond the Wedding Ceremony, guests are encouraged to take the opportunity to unplug all weekend.

Question

Will there be transportation to and from the hotel and the wedding?

Answer

Yes, the Travel Page will provide all the info that you will need to ensure that we party responsibly and safely get to and from the Wedding venue.

Question

Is there parking for the Ceremony or Reception?

Answer

Yes. If you miss the shuttle or choose not to take it, parking is free at V. Sattui. But again, we would prefer you to take an Uber or Lyft if you plan to enjoy the fruits of the vine.

Question

What time should I arrive at the Wedding Ceremony?

Answer

Arriving early will make sure you are settled before the ceremony starts at 5:30PM. We suggest guests take the first shuttle from Silverado to V. Sattui, which is scheduled to leave at 4:30pm. Refreshments will be waiting for those that arrive early. As we are having an unplugged ceremony, we will also be providing a phone valet. The second shuttle will depart promptly at 4:45.

Question

What is the Wedding Day dress code?

Answer

Black tie formal, please. The Bride and Groom respectfully ask you to avoid white. The weather in Napa in February is a bit chilly, so we suggest light coats or shawls.

Question

Where are you registered?

Answer

If you're feeling extra generous, you can check out our Registry Page for details. While we have included traditional registry items to prepare our home for a lifetime together, we also know that some of the best gifts are experiences, so we've also included some opportunities for your to invest in our adventures!

Question

Can I bring a date?

Answer

This is a gathering meant to share our joy with our closest family and friends, and we were careful to be sure that our guest list reflects that intent. We have also painstakingly limited our guest list to ensure that our more vulnerable guests feel comfortable attending during this ongoing pandemic. We ask that our invited guests support and respect this policy. Uninvited persons will be escorted from the private venues.

Question

Are kids invited?

Answer

While children are welcome at the Nigerian Engagement Ceremony, our Wedding is an evening for the grown ups only. The Wedding Ceremony and Reception will be 21+, so with the exception of the Bride and Groom's younger siblings, we respectfully ask that minors do not attend. If your children will joining us at the Engagement Ceremony, please be sure to indicate how many on your RSVP form!

Question

What is the best airport to fly in to? Should I rent a car?

Answer

Our Travel Page provides these details, but the airport with the most flexible options is likely San Francisco International (SFO). The drive from the airport to Napa is about an hour. Parking is free at Silverado Resort, so we think it may be more economical (and fun to explore!) to rent a car, rather than taking a taxi or Uber all the way to wine country.

Question

What if I want to extend my stay beyond the Wedding Weekend?

Answer

It's Napa. Ten calls it "the closest thing to Heaven on Earth," so of course you'd like to stay long enough to explore. If you would like to book outside of our contracted room block inventory, you also have the option of calling Silverado's reservations department at (800) 532-0500. Please ask for “in-house reservations” and be sure to note that you are part of the Stallings/Wilborne wedding party, but would like to book dates outside of the Room Block. Please note their normal business hours are Monday – Friday 8:00 AM – 8:30 PM and Saturday – Sunday 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM (PST).
