Question

Why Gordon Hall?

Answer

We both LOVE history and the mansion was built in the 1840's. It's one of the only historic homes still on it's original property where the surrounding acreage was not sold off - hence a gorgeous space for our wedding. From the top of the hill you can see a great deal of Dexter, and also the road leading to the cemetery where some of the most important people in Billy's life have been laid to rest. Emily always loved this beautiful home every time she drove by and was elated to find out it could be rented for events. It's a very unique venue and has not been used for many weddings. But mostly, we chose it because we feel that God is all over the grounds. The history is rich and we wanted to support small local business and invest into the upkeep and restoration of the property. You can find more information here: http://www.dexterhistory.org/gordon-hall.html

Question

Can guests access the mansion?

Answer

There is a small portion of the mansion open to the Bridal Party only. Otherwise, we want you to enjoy everything on the grounds! We have rented tents, a dance floor, and supplied lawn games and bathrooms for your comfort. You should have everything you need outside! The mansion is filled with lots of irreplaceable items so they have not given open access to the public. If you're interested in checking out the mansion, you should look into events where a Dexter Historical Society representative can show you around. You can find more information at http://www.dexterhistory.org/gordon-hall.html.

Question

When should I RSVP by?

Answer

We are working within a very limited space so your RSVP helps us plan SO much! We need final numbers by May 1, 2018 but we would love for you to let us know if you can join as fast as you know. It truly helps us so much as we try to invite as many loved ones (comfortably) as we can!

Question

Do you have any hotel recommendations?

Answer

We do! There are lots of hotels in the area, but we have a block of rooms at Weber's Inn in Ann Arbor. Please see the TRAVEL & PLACES TO STAY tab for information and our wedding code for your discount. There is NO shuttle service available, so we need you to prepare - drink responsibly - and arrange for rides ahead of time. We want everyone to have a good time and get home safely afterwards!

Question

What time should I arrive at the ceremony?

Answer

We are planning to begin at 4pm, and parking can be tricky so if you can get here early, we recommend it! Aiming for 3:30 should give you plenty of time to park and get a seat comfortably, or just wander around the grounds and take it all in!

Question

Where do I park?

Answer

Gordon Hall has very limited parking so we actually suggest either arriving early, and / or carpooling if you can. There will be volunteer staff directing parking. Please be patient as we get everyone parked!

Question

Why Hotel Hickman BBQ?

Answer

In keeping with our historic theme, Hotel Hickman provides an extremely unique and authentic chuckwagon BBQ setup and we are so excited to share it with you! Scott Hickman and his family own and operate Hotel Hickman BBQ right out of downtown Dexter and it's DELICIOUS! We sincerely hope you enjoy it! You can find more information on our caterer here: https://www.hotelhickman.com/

Question

What is Gordon Hall's smoking policy

Answer

Because Gordon Hall is a completely irreplaceable structure, the smoking policy is STRICT. We are actually not even allowed candles on the grounds. You may smoke on the paved section near the condos next door and you must put your cigarette out completely and dispose of it properly. Because there will be so many people in a small space, if you need to smoke we ask that you be considerate of others and smoke as far away from them as possible.

Question

Is there a dress code?

Answer

No way! We want you to be as comfortable as possible. The wedding is entirely outdoors, so just plan accordingly.

Question

What is the beverage situation?

Answer

Gordon Hall has a policy for nearly everything - beverages included! No liquor or red wine is allowed (legal liability and property stain concerns). Hotel Hickman is providing fire-brewed iced tea, we will have pop, water and beer and wine for those 21+. There is NO liquor allowed on the grounds, and they've been clear that anyone with liquor will be asked to leave. We also want to be sure everyone has a safe and enjoyable night - so please arrange for a safe ride home. We want amazing memories for our wedding and know that you do too - so let's be smart with beverages!
