Rachel and Kevin attended the same discipleship program in Columbia, SC called the South Carolina School of Leadership. Although they were vaguely aware of each other their first year, most of their conversations were superficial. They both decided independently to pursue a second year, and were placed on a team together to co lead a small group. Both of them had their reservations and expressed them to staff. But alas, staff would not change their minds, and so Rachel and Kevin had to learn how to lead together. They worked together for a year and found that they made an amazing ministry team. Over the course of their second year they built a friendship on mutual respect, and found they appreciated the other for their God given talents and skills. It was Kevin who noticed Rachel in a romantic way first. And so, at the end of the second year Kevin approached staff to ask Rachel out. And the rest is history.
It was Rachel's 27th birthday, and Kevin had decided to go all out. They went on a day trip to Charlotte, NC to see a jazz musical review, eat good food, and just celebrate. Little did Rachel know what Kevin had in store. They walked to the theater a few hours before the show started, and just got to talking. Rachel was asking Kevin big questions about their future, and plans, not even aware that Kevin was fiddling with the engagement ring in his pocket, waiting for her to stop talking. Finally, she said, "Do you have any questions for me?" "Just one." was his reply. And there in front of the Charlotte Theater, he proposed.
