When we first met

I (Shea) was dressed as Jesus; 10.26.2018

My best friend, Katrina, had offered an invite to a Halloween party at a local (to her) bar on the Friday before Halloween. I decided to dress as Jesus for a party I was attending that Sunday, but wanted to test out the costume ahead of time. This party provided the perfect opportunity for me. Anthony was there on behalf of his coworker and friend, John. He was dressed as a vampire. We chatted throughout the night. He asked why I wasn't drinking wine (I had already performed that miracle, duh!), I teased him for drinking pumpkin beer. It was organic and good fun. When Katrina and I were preparing to leave, I sent her over to John to ask if Anthony was single. He confirmed he was available, so I wrote down my name and phone number on a piece of paper. As I walked towards Anthony, he pulled out his phone. I handed my information to him and said something along the lines of, "If you ever want to meet up when I'm in town, here's my number," to which he replied, "oh, that's funny, I was just about to ask you for your number," and handed me his phone. He texted me a week later, we set up our first date, and the rest is history.

The Pre-Proposal

07.18.2020

During one sunny Saturday in mid-July, Anthony asked me what I wanted for my future. My immediate answer was, "well, I want you to be in my life for a very long time." I then continued on to list my dreams, goals, and aspirations. We chatted about my answers for a little while. He asked some other questions, I answered. He was being weird throughout the whole conversation. Well, turns out, there was a reason - he was nervous! His next question was, "well, what do you think about marriage?" to which I answered, "well, I would love to marry you." We both agreed we'd like to marry each other, but I implored him to talk with my parents first and get their blessing, to which he readily agreed - that was his next step. It took an entire month before this conversation took place between Anthony and my parents, but it was well worth the wait!

The Official Proposal

08.22.2020

The stars had finally aligned: I was working a double at work, and Anthony was spending the day with my parents, helping them with some household projects. Throughout the day, I wondered how his day was going: did he ask them yet? What did they say? What's being said now? Long story short, he got their blessing. So when I came home from my long double shift, I found Anthony down on one knee, box in hand. He said, "I already know the answer, but will you please do me the honor of becoming my wife?" to which I responded, "can you wait until I put my stuff down, please?" Not very romantic, I know, but after I put my stuff down, I knelt in front of him and accepted the ring.
