It all started with a heart on Hinge—and a profile with no information. Tayo came across Devon’s profile and sent him a heart. Devon hearted her back but wondered why her profile said so little. (In her defense, Tayo had been told that men don’t read profiles, so she let her photos do the talking!) Once we matched, the conversation flowed instantly. We quickly discovered our similarities, such as shared ties to Philly (Tayo went to school there, and Devon lived and worked there after college), but we also discovered one major difference: our NFC East loyalties. Tayo is a proud Washington Commanders fan, while Devon—despite being otherwise wonderful—is a Dallas Cowboys fan for reasons we’re still trying to understand. Our first date was Labor Day Weekend 2023, at a bowling alley in Columbia, Maryland. Bowling turned into arcade games, arcade games turned into dinner, and dinner turned into hours of talking and laughing until the restaurant kicked us out at 1 a.m. At the end of the night, Devon asked if he could see Tayo again. She said yes. Two years later, Labor Day Weekend—and at the very same place—Devon asked Tayo another question. This time, it was whether she would be his wife.
